Responsibilities

  • Examine shipment contents and compare with records to verify accuracy.
  • Requisition and store shipping materials and supplies to maintain inventory.
  • Prepare documents to route materials for shipping.
  • Pack, seal, label, or affix postage to prepare materials for shipping.
  • Record shipment data for reporting, accounting, or recordkeeping purposes.
  • Confer or correspond with establishment representatives to rectify problems.
  • Contact carrier representatives to make arrangements or issue instructions for shipping and delivery.
  • Determine shipping methods, routes, or rates for materials to be shipped.
  • Compute amounts, such as space available, shipping, storage, or demurrage charges.
  • Compare shipping routes or methods to determine the least environmental impact.
  • Inspect shipments to ensure correct order fulfillment.
  • Order materials, supplies, or equipment.
  • Prepare documentation for contracts, transactions, or regulatory compliance.
  • Package objects for shipping.
  • Record shipping information.
  • Respond to customer problems or complaints.
  • Analyze shipping information to make routing decisions.
  • Cook up shipping activities with external parties.
  • Calculate shipping costs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Previous experience with ERP Software – Microsoft AX preferred.
  • Ability to organize, plan, and prioritize work.
  • Must be willing to work as a team.
  • Experience training and teaching others.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, proficiency in written and verbal communication, and good spelling and grammar.
  • High degree of attention to detail; demonstrates accuracy and self-directed.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. when required.
  • Regularly stand, walk, climb ladders, and reach with hands and arms.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This position may involve potential exposure to hazardous materials, and environmental changes (heat/cold), and the employee must be able to work under stress occasioned by production requirements, personnel, and the needs of other departments, utilizing proper body mechanics. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
