Compensation

Compensation range: $18.50 – $24.98 per hour. Individual pay will be set within the range based on market data, education, experience, qualifications, internal equity, and other relevant factors.

Responsibilities

• Assists providers during exams and performs clinical tasks in outpatient clinics, including technical, procedural, and information systems tasks that affect patient comfort, care, and safety.
• Anticipates provider needs and adapts to patient complexity during exams.
• Attaches patients to diagnostic and medical equipment such as dynamapp, pulse oximeter, EKG, cardiac monitor, and pneumatic tourniquet.
• Explains next steps and systems to patients, ensures supplies and equipment are available, and minimizes patient wait time.
• Obtains vital signs, performs diagnostic testing and specimen collection per provider order, and accurately labels, logs, and processes specimens according to protocol.
• Enters patient data, condition, and care given into the electronic medical record system.
• Maintains clinical equipment and medical supply levels, conducts inventory, monitors expiration dates, requisitions supplies, and tracks utilization for cost trending.
• Implements infection prevention measures, monitors practices for breaches, and suggests corrections.
• Precepts new Ambulatory Technologists, providing orientation to equipment, programs, policies, and procedures.
• Performs administrative duties as assigned, including scheduling and registration.
• As a Surgical Procedure Assistant:
  • Assists providers with patient processes, prepares rooms and instrumentation, and provides basic patient instructions.
  • Anticipates provider needs during procedures, obtains additional instrumentation, prepares and labels specimens, and dresses wounds.
  • Checks and calibrates equipment, sets up sterile fields, preps instrument trays, and sterilizes instruments.
  • Reviews discharge instructions with patients as prepared by the provider.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent plus one year of experience in a customer-focused/service setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Associate degree preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and computer experience preferred.

Career Ladder

• Band One (I) – Entry Level: Requires training and regular direct supervision; focuses on orientation to department policies, workflows, and routine tasks. Success requires independent responsibility for daily functions, specimen handling, and computer documentation.
• Band Two (II) – Competent: Demonstrates proficiency with minimal supervision, serves as a preceptor for new hires, assists with unit safety goals, and may participate in special projects or committees. Requires a minimum of 6 months of progressively responsible experience in an ambulatory clinic.
• Band Three (III) – Expert: Acts as a subject matter expert, assists in mentoring, troubleshoots issues, represents the department on committees, and prepares staff for evaluations. Requires a minimum of 1 year of progressively responsible experience as an Ambulatory Technologist. Advancement is based on performance, departmental need, and approval from the Ambulatory Nursing Director and Human Resources.
