Ambulatory Medical Assistant (MA)

Under the direct clinical support and supervision of a licensed professional, the Ambulatory Medical Assistant promotes efficient, high-quality clinical practice by collaborating with the team to manage patient flow and communication, deliver safe and appropriate patient care within the scope of practice, and adhere to established policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate patient intake and documentation, including gathering vital signs, medical history, current medications, and immunization status, and accurately record all information in the electronic health record (EHR).
• Assist healthcare providers during patient exams and procedures, ensuring necessary supplies are available; prepare patients for exams and administer immunizations or injections under supervision, as permitted by state regulations.
• Collect, label, and prepare laboratory specimens such as blood or urine for analysis, following clinic protocols and safety standards.
• Provide patients with clear instructions regarding treatment plans, medication management, and follow-up care; act as a liaison between patients and providers to relay information and coordinate care.
• Monitor and manage in-basket messaging, including triaging, routing, and responding to messages from patients, providers, and staff to support efficient clinic workflow.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization in exam rooms and medical equipment; ensure proper sterilization of instruments and restock medical supplies as needed.
• Assist with administrative tasks such as handling referrals, managing patient records, and performing other clerical duties to support clinic operations.
• Utilize point-of-care instruments (e.g., ISTAT, Piccolo, glucometer) as needed.
• Perform electrocardiograms (EKGs), ENO, Spirometry, or other diagnostic tests on patients as directed; process and file patient charts and monitor procedure activity under supervision.
• Participate in quality assurance and improvement activities and assist with preparation for regulatory surveys.
• Adhere to core values, including availability to work as scheduled, willingness to accept supervision, professional grooming, compliance with policies, and promotion of a respectful workplace culture.
• Follow all institutional and departmental safety policies and procedures, including wearing appropriate PPE.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and graduation from a Medical Assistant program or EMT program or a Bachelor’s degree in a health or science-related field (e.g., Health Sciences, Biology, Human Biology, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Biomedical Sciences, or Public Health).
• Relevant clinical, internship, externship, or patient-facing experience preferred but not required.
• CPR/BLS certification required.

Pay

$20.69 - $27.36 per hour.
