Ambulatory Care Nurse - Peds - Garden City

About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Ambulatory Care Nurse in Pediatrics at our Garden City location. The Ambulatory Care Nurse supports the coordination, integration, communication, implementation, and evaluation of nursing practice and clinical policies and procedures. This role involves participating in quality and performance improvement activities, collecting patient healthcare data, and collaborating with licensed providers to develop patient-centered plans of care.

The Ambulatory Care Nurse provides comprehensive care, including administration of treatments and medications, disease prevention guidance, rehabilitation care, public health care, and supportive care for symptom relief, including health teaching and counseling.

Responsibilities

• Performs physical examinations and diagnostic tests.
• Collects and records patient health history in the electronic health record.
• Provides information, counsel, and education to patients and families regarding test results and treatment plans as directed.
• Administers medications (including vaccinations, IV therapy, oxygen), provides comprehensive wound care, and performs phone and in-person patient triage for clinical concerns.
• Assesses and monitors patient responses to treatments, procedures, and anesthesia.
• Interprets patient information and makes treatment decisions as appropriate.
• Consults with clinical supervisors and licensed providers to determine best treatment plans.
• Directs, supervises, and delegates tasks to licensed practical nurses, medical assistants, and technicians to support patient flow and efficiency.
• Supports the coordination, integration, and performance evaluation of nursing practice and clinical policies and procedures.
• Ensures clinical compliance with Patient Safety initiatives and reporting.
• Participates in key quality initiatives (e.g., MIPS, Care gap management) to impact clinical outcome measures.
• Demonstrates knowledge of NYULH Service Standards and incorporates them into responsibilities.
• Participates in activities related to NYULH clinical standards and regulations of relevant outside agencies.
• Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and promotes collegial relationships.
• Serves as a resource for nursing, clinical staff, and providers.
• Participates in clinical inquiry and activities to foster evidence-based practice.
• Provides emergency care in accordance with organizational policy.
• Delegates and oversees nursing interventions to implement patient care plans.
• Engages in self-assessment and professional growth activities.
• Executes medical regimens as prescribed by licensed providers.
• Assesses patients, identifies unmet needs, and plans comprehensive care.
• Identifies and reports co-morbidities or emergent complications to providers.
• Coordinates care with other healthcare providers (e.g., respiratory therapists, physical therapists, social workers).
• Provides direct care services, including administration of treatments, medications, and health counseling.
• Performs onsite testing (e.g., POC lab testing, EKG, specimen collection, auditory & visual tests, spirometry, allergy skin testing).
• Performs medical and nursing treatments (e.g., wound care, suture/staple removal, urinary catheter care, IV therapy).
• Administers medications via various routes (IM, PO, SQ, ID, IV, topical, inhalation, etc.).
• Manages IV therapy, including blood products, fluids, and chemotherapy (with proper certification).
• Ensures timely management of clinical in-baskets and encounter closures.
• Performs in-person and phone triage for patient clinical concerns with appropriate escalation.
• Provides care/case management for a defined population via a multidisciplinary plan.
• Identifies patient, family, and community health deviations and advocates for appropriate actions.
• Collects and analyzes patient healthcare data to determine health status and nursing diagnoses.
• Develops patient-centered plans of care and educates patients to promote healthy adjustments.
• Evaluates patient progress toward expected outcomes.

Requirements

• Current Registered Professional Nurse license in New York.
• If hired after 9/1/25: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited institution required. Associate Degree in Nursing may be approved contingent upon approval from Nursing Leadership, with a minimum of two years of nursing experience in the applicable area and enrollment in a baccalaureate nursing program to be completed within a specified timeframe.
