Job Purpose
PHINIA is seeking a dynamic Product Engineer to support Alternator Electronics! The Alternator Electronics Product Engineer will be responsible for understanding the alternator regulator and rectifier bridge needs for future high efficiency passenger car and commercial vehicle designs as well as maintaining and updating existing regulator and rectifier bridge products as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct and lead the team with activities needed for developing solutions for our customers, whether it is developing new alternator regulator families or updating existing regulator families to meet customer specific needs.
- This person will also technically direct all diode changes and sourcing.
- Take input from the Senior Alternator PE to understand what new requirements or changes are needed. Support the Senior Alternator PE with competitive assessment activities making sure PHINIA provides the best products with competitive designs.
- Knowledge of solid state and power electronics along with basic mechanical properties providing innovative new alternator electronics needs.
- Work with all levels within engineering and PHINIA plants to convey their knowledge across a wide range of skill sets in a clear and understanding manner.
- Participation and support of relevant industry group activities to keep PHINIA alternator products in the top echelon and desired by customers.
Job Duties
- Develop and maintain all alternator electronics components with the electronics suppliers.
- Understand the available regulator ASICs in the market today.
- Able to work with regulator electronic supplier to design these regulator ASICs into production regulators.
- Work with diode suppliers to select the appropriate diodes for various alternator power requirements.
- Knowledge of software applications such as Team Center PLM, Intrepid vehicle spy, and MATLAB.
- Able to take product requirements and create new product configurations and/or identify existing products to meet these requirements.
- Work with plant product engineering, manufacturing engineering, SDE, component purchasing, and quality organizations to evaluate supplier input back to PHINIA during new component sourcing activities.
- Lead the change management process for alternators electronics components.
- Participate in and lead cross-functional project teams.
- Provide the appropriate alternator electronic specifications for new opportunities.
- Work with the quality organization to proactively ensure product quality and reliability.
- Work with supplier development engineers to resolve supplier issues and non-conformances.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to the plant alternator product engineers for any changes required to current production alternator electronics components.
- Work with suppliers on cost savings initiatives.
- Participate in competitive assessment activities for alternators.
- Able to work with a global team supporting alternator products.
- Works with other engineers to resolve issues.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with emphasis on electronics (BSEE).
- Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Knowledge of automotive systems and rotating electrical machines is preferred.
- Strong understanding of electronics theory; related to power electronics, switching devices, and semiconductors.
- High Level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, internally and externally to the company.
- Strong analytical, statistical and problem-solving skills; ability to solve complex problems that require considerable judgment.
- Extensive knowledge of metrics, competitive benchmarks, and standards.
- Computer Literate: Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook.
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time to customer and plant sites (regionally and globally).
