All Things Considered Host/Anchor (Public Radio / Broadcasting)

About the Role

A well-established public media organization in Louisville is looking for an experienced broadcast journalist to anchor afternoon drive programming on its NPR news station. The host is one of the organization's most prominent public voices, presenting local and regional news within NPR's flagship news magazine to a large daily audience during the most-listened-to hours of the day. This is a multi-platform role that extends well beyond the afternoon broadcast. The host reports and produces local stories, represents the station at community and live events, and helps extend the day's journalism into digital, visual, and on-demand spaces, including social media, short-form video, and podcasts. Off-air, the host serves as a community personality with a clear, conversational, and trustworthy voice.

Responsibilities

• Hosting afternoon drive during All Things Considered, delivering live and prerecorded breaks with a natural writing and delivery style
• Exercising news judgment so that every break delivers the most essential local news of the hour, adhering to FCC regulations, NPR broadcast clocks, and station guidelines
• Conducting live and prerecorded two-way interviews with reporters, editors, and community guests
• Writing and editing on-air copy, serving as a final check for accuracy, context, fairness, and AP style
• Operating the audio board and broadcast equipment during live shifts, hitting time posts and forward-promoting content
• Reporting and producing regular short- and long-form local stories
• Adapting audio stories into written, visual, and short-form video content for the station's website, app, social platforms, and newsletters
• Hosting, co-hosting, and moderating community conversations, panels, and public forums
• Contributing to the organization's podcast slate and on-demand programming
• Participating in on-air fundraising and covering additional shifts during fund drives, specials, and breaking news

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
• At least two years of experience in a daily newsroom, as a broadcast journalist, or as a radio host
• Excellent working knowledge of journalism ethics, news law, and AP style
• Clear communicator with openness to feedback
• Detail-oriented and self-motivated, able to work on weekly deadlines with minimal supervision
• Available for occasional non-standard and weekend hours
• Access to reliable transportation for local travel

Preferred

• Strong knowledge of public radio and its mission
• Experience hosting a live radio shift in public radio
• Experience as a board operator
