Airside Construction Manager
About the role
KDG Construction Consulting is seeking a Senior Airside Construction Manager to oversee and manage a large airside aviation construction program as an owner’s representative. The role involves providing direction and management during the completion of a multimillion-dollar airside development project. The ideal candidate should have strong experience in airside construction and airport environments, with familiarity in Design-Build and other alternative delivery methods.
Responsibilities
- Serves on behalf of the owner to provide direction and management of the construction project
- Directs the overall planning of construction activities to identify critical milestones and priorities
- Determines budget estimates and staffing requirements for the defined scope and schedule
- Monitors contractor activity at various work areas, including overseeing construction operations, monitoring progress, and recommending corrective action as necessary
- Manages the Contractor’s assignment of manpower, materials, and equipment to maximize efficiency, maintain schedules, and meet budget goals
- Keeps alert to possible problem areas and takes preventative action to ensure critical milestones are met for each phase of the project; provides updates and notifications to the Owner as necessary
- Ensures the use of sound construction practices to attain required quality control at maximum efficiency and minimum cost
- Oversees construction inspection activities to ensure compliance with contract documents, project specifications, and quality standards
- Prepares periodic reports summarizing progress of construction activities for higher-level management and clients
- Ensures effective implementation of all Company and client policies and procedures, including safety
- Serves as the primary contact with client representatives, subcontractors, and government representatives for construction-related activities; maintains strong client and community relations
- Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Construction, Engineering, or related technical/business field
- Minimum of 15 years of related work experience in aviation and/or public facility construction, preferably with at least 10 years involving landside airport-related construction and/or renovation
- Experience managing or overseeing airfield paving projects, including runway, taxiway, apron, or pavement rehabilitation work, is strongly preferred
- Construction inspection experience on aviation or heavy civil infrastructure projects is required
- Experience with projects of at least $50 million in total costs preferred
- Proven ability to perform in a management capacity
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and a thorough knowledge of industry practices and regulations
- Strong proficiency in MS Office Suite and document control systems, such as Primavera Contract Manager
- Must be able and willing to work night shift in support of active airport construction operations
Candidates should be skilled in contractor management, field coordination, and managing schedule, cost, quality, safety, RFIs, submittals, change orders, and closeout activities. They should also be comfortable coordinating with airport operations, airlines, contractors, inspectors, engineers, FAA, and other stakeholders, with a strong understanding of FOD, runway/taxiway closures, escort requirements, badging, and airfield work-zone safety.

Pay
$165,000 - $210,000 per year
