Airport Operations Supervisor - Security

About the role

The Broward County Aviation Department operates Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and North Perry Airport. This position is an Airport Operations Supervisor within the Security Compliance Division at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. The role involves administrative and supervisory work managing the overall operation of a functional area, maintaining awareness of airport security operational conditions, and responding to the needs of airport users to ensure the safety and security of airport property, employees, visitors, and passengers. The incumbent must plan, coordinate, and manage operations in a 24/7 environment in compliance with 49 CFR Parts 1520, 1540, and 1542 and all related federal, state, and local airport security rules and regulations. Work is performed independently under limited supervision, with major activities reported through periodic meetings.

Responsibilities

• Management and supervision of personnel responsible for Aviation Security Compliance
• Performing security inspections, tenant lease compliance, and airport emergency response in a 24/7 environment
• Compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations including 49 CFR 1520, 1540, 1542, and TSA Security Directives
• Development and implementation of training, exercises, plans, procedures, and policies for an Airport Security Operations Group
• Stand and walk for up to seven (7) interrupted hours during an eight-hour shift in a fast-paced environment
• Physically access remote and/or cramped airport areas, occasionally in adverse weather, and under emergency and stressful conditions
• Respond to airport emergencies, direct use of aviation department resources, and coordinate with emergency, law enforcement, and federal agencies
• Work shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
• Pass extensive security screening, including fingerprint checks, employment verification, and other procedures mandated by federal law as a continuing condition of employment
• Perform related work as assigned

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in airport management, business administration, or closely related field (one year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education)
• Four (4) years airport operations work including one (1) year of lead work/supervisory experience
• Valid Florida Class E Driver's License maintained for duration of appointment

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Aviation Security, Aviation Management, or related field
• American Association of Airport Executives Airport Certified Employee (AAAE-ACE) in Operations, Communications, or Security
• American Association of Airport Executives Certified Member (AAAE-CM)
• Airport Security Coordinator (ASC) Designation
• AAAE Airport Certified Employee - Security
• Supervised a team that ensured compliance with an Airport Security Program and TSA Security Directives
