Location & Schedule

• Work on site at Denver International Airport (parking is provided).
• Shifts consist of four (4) 10-hour days. Primary shift will be discussed in interview and can be any of the following (yearlong commitments, subject to change based on operational need):
  • Day Shift: 0600-1630 (6:00 AM-4:30 PM)
  • Swing Shift: 1600-0230 (4:00 PM-2:30 AM)
  • Graveyard Shift: 2000-0600 (8:00 PM-6:00 AM)
• 7%-12% pay differential depending on shift assigned and equipment operated.
• Denver International Airport operates 24/7/365; employees may be required to work extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays during staffing challenges, weather conditions, or emergencies.
• Participate in mandatory snow removal duties with on-call overtime hours: 3:30 AM to 3:30 PM or 3:30 PM to 3:30 AM.
• Uniforms provided along with a work boot allowance and mobile phone stipend.

About the Role

Denver International Airport’s Field Department is looking for an Airport Field Technician Lead. In this position, you will execute full performance journey-level construction, maintenance, and repair work on a wide variety of linear assets and federally regulated airport surfaces with a focus on asphalt, concrete, and earthwork for large, complex, or difficult projects. Employees work in the FAA-regulated Air Operations Area (AOA), requiring enhanced security clearance and airfield driving certification. All maintenance must comply with federal regulations, including CFR Part 139 and FAA Advisory Circular 150/5380-6C.

Responsibilities

• Performs lead work over paving operations in a wide variety of applications including multi-lane roadways, taxiway shoulders, runway shoulders, and parking lots. Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and resolves problems related to pavement quality and the paving process.
• Performs lead work over advanced installation and analysis of concrete curb and gutter, full panel installations, spall rehabilitations, and foundation work. Conducts quality control, diagnoses problems throughout the mixing process, placement of concrete, and uses advanced finishing techniques.
• Manages and tracks assigned work orders for maintenance and maintains documentation, records, and reports through a computerized maintenance management system.
• Trains employees in day-to-day procedures of the work unit and mastery of individual knowledge, skills, and abilities essential to work tasks.
• Develops or modifies work plans, methods, and procedures; determines work priorities and develops work schedules to provide adequate staff coverage. Provides work instruction and assists employees with difficult and/or unusual assignments. Assigns and distributes work assignments, reviews work for accuracy and completeness, and returns assignments with recommendations for proper completion.
• Troubleshoots, installs, and monitors ADA-compliant pavement surfaces.
• Sets grade and reads grade stakes for roadway maintenance, earthwork, and construction. Interprets blueprints to excavate, backfill, and shore trenches for electrical and plumbing installations.
• Responds to field service calls to troubleshoot, diagnose, and determine necessary actions to complete.
• Leads airfield snow removal duties and operates large, complex specialized industrial equipment in accordance with the nature of the work and efficiency of airport-specific multifunctional snow removal equipment.
• Responds to grievances and relays information to the supervisor. Documents situations that may be cause for disciplinary action and provides this information to the supervisor.
• Resolves problems encountered during daily operations and determines appropriate solutions.
• Monitors and observes common maintenance safety standards.
• Prepares and maintains documentation, records, and reports to identify vehicle accident damage and needed repairs.
• Responds to airfield emergencies, playing a crucial role in escorting ambulances, fire rescue vehicles, buses, and other first responders during airport emergencies in support of the emergency response plan. Transports emergency response trailers to the scene and assists with the command-site setup.
• Responds to after-hours calls or emergency calls outside of normal scheduled or business hours.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• May be re-deployed to work in other capacities in their own agencies or in other City agencies to support core functions of the City during a citywide emergency declared by the mayor.

• Airport Movement Endorsement to operate a vehicle within the airport active “Movement area” that includes runways, taxiways, and safety areas requiring air traffic control clearance and radio communication at time of application or within six months of probation.

Qualifications

• Education: Graduation from high school or possession of a GED, HiSET, or TASC Certificate.
• Experience: Three (3) years of experience performing a variety of duties in construction, asphalt, concrete, and earthwork at an airport and three (3) years of airfield snow removal experience and/or experience operating heavy equipment.
• Education/Experience Equivalency: A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements.
• License/Certifications:
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL "A") with appropriate endorsements at time of application. CDL "B" is also acceptable.
  • Flagger certification required at time of application or within six months of probation.
• Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.

FBI criminal background check is required for all positions at Denver International Airport (DEN). Employees are also required to report any felony convictions and/or moving violations to maintain this clearance and be eligible for continued employment. By position, a pre-employment physical/drug test may be required.
