Airport Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) Supervisor

About the Role

The Airport Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Supervisor provides fire prevention and suppression services to all City of Dayton Aviation facilities. Directs protection operations to minimize loss of life and property and ensures emergency medical and rescue services are provided as needed. Provides emergency care for people when warranted and conducts rescue efforts involving aircraft passengers and crew members. Directs emergency responses to fire alarms, aircraft alerts, and hazardous material incidents. As a member of the management team, carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with policies and applicable laws.

Responsibilities

• Direct protection operations to minimize loss of life and property.
• Provide emergency medical and rescue services, including care for individuals and rescue efforts for aircraft passengers and crew.
• Respond to fire alarms, aircraft alerts, and hazardous material incidents.
• Perform all approved medical care techniques as mandated by the Greater Miami Valley Emergency Medical Services Commission (GGMVEMSC), Aircraft Rescue Firefighting Division, or its medical advisors.
• Supervise and manage emergency response teams in accordance with established policies and laws.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science or related field AND 4 years of firefighting experience, with at least 1 year as an Aircraft Rescue Firefighter; OR
• Associate degree in Fire Science, Public Administration, Business Management, Emergency Medical Services, or a related field AND 4 years of firefighting experience, with at least 3 years as an Aircraft Rescue Firefighter; OR
• High School Diploma (or G.E.D) AND 8 years as an Aircraft Rescue Firefighter.
• Degree must be from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education through the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission or equivalent region.
• Valid driver’s license at time of appointment and maintained thereafter as a condition of continued employment.

Qualifications & Certifications

• Valid State of Ohio Level II Firefighter certification and a valid State of Ohio Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification at time of appointment.
• Within one year of appointment, must obtain and maintain:
  • State of Ohio Fire Safety Inspector certification
  • Hazardous Materials Operations level certification
  • Ohio Fire Instructor I certification
  • Fire Officer I and Ohio Fire Officer II certifications
  • National Incident Management System (NIMS) Training 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800
• Complete recurrent ARFF training in accordance with FAR 139.319.
• Obtain State of Ohio Paramedic Certification within 30 months from the start of the Paramedic class in which the City of Dayton registers the candidate.
• Obtain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification upon enrollment in an ACLS class in which the City of Dayton registers the candidate.

Background & Medical Requirements

• Pass a background investigation, including police and U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) fingerprint and background checks.
• Provide evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity prior to employment.
• Pass a job-related medical examination, including a drug screen.
• Pass a nicotine screening; newly hired employees must remain tobacco and nicotine-free as a condition of continued employment.
