About the role

The Upholstery Specialist at Duncan Aviation is responsible for foaming, sewing, designing, and upholstering airplane interiors according to customer specifications and Duncan Aviation approved procedures. The position requires minimal supervision and involves a range of tasks including disassembling, repairing, recovering, and reassembling aircraft seats, preparing seat parts, and installing seat covers.

Responsibilities

  • Disassembles, repairs, recovers, and reassembles aircraft seats
  • Prepares miscellaneous seat parts and accessories for paint
  • Performs basic troubleshooting of seat assemblies
  • Selects and shapes foam to contours and specifications prescribed on blueprints and per customer approved design center conceptual drawings
  • Performs minor modifications to seats and accessories
  • Prepares seats for upholstering by stripping all foam and covers using various hand tools according to Duncan Aviation approved procedures
  • Cleans glue off panels and strips materials from parts
  • Sews, modifies, and installs seat covers, curtains, and miscellaneous items using sewing machine, glue gun, and other hand tools
  • Designs seat patterns according to customer and designer specifications
  • Affords assistance with training team members to develop job knowledge and improve performance
  • Prepares, researches, and signs off various documents for record keeping purposes as required by Duncan approved procedures, manufacturers' maintenance manuals, and FAA regulations (i.e. turnovers, removal sheets, flammability testing, W.O. Sheets and other work order related documents supporting the squawks and expected hours)
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor and/or management

Requirements

  • Licenses/Certificates: Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • Attendance: Regularly scheduled attendance required
  • Physical: Routinely lifts up to 50 lbs., occasionally 100 lbs.; reads small print; hearing sounds associated with mechanical deficiencies; repetitive motion; works with moving parts and vibration; tolerates working in confined spaces; tolerates products and materials associated with component maintenance; tolerates standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing and sitting
  • Environmental: Tolerates working in extreme temperatures and noisy environments
  • Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 7am-3:30pm

Qualifications

  • Upholstery Assistant: High School graduate or equivalent required; Mechanical/Hands-on, sewing, or fabric experience preferred
  • Upholstery Specialist I: High School graduate or equivalent required; Associates degree in related field preferred; Minimum one year upholstery/sewing experience required
  • Upholstery Specialist II: High School graduate or equivalent required; Minimum two years aviation interior upholstery experience required
  • Upholstery Specialist III: High School graduate or equivalent required; Minimum four years experience in upholstery required; Minimum three years aviation interior upholstery experience preferred
