Aircraft Quality Control Inspector

About the Role

The CBP Aircraft Quality Control Inspector ensures assigned aircraft are maintained within required specifications of 14 CFR Parts 43, 91, and 125, as well as other FAA, DOD regulations, OEM instructions, and CBP directives. The inspector verifies airworthiness before operation.

Responsibilities

• Inspect the work of Aircraft Mechanics performing maintenance, repairs, and modifications on aircraft structures, engines, electrical systems, avionics, and sub-systems.
• Apply technical knowledge to determine proper equipment installation and operation.
• Assist the maintenance department in solving complex problems by interpreting technical documentation such as blueprints or manufacturer manuals.
• Make entries in aircraft logs and records and provide guidance to lower-level technicians during aircraft modifications or maintenance.
• Perform receiving, in-process, final quality, flight safety inspections, and functional operational tests during organizational, intermediate, and depot-level maintenance.
• Approve or reject work to ensure compliance with customer specifications, standards, and technical data.
• Review and approve locally developed procedures for complex repair situations.
• Analyze defects and interpret quality control rejection and failure trends.
• Monitor safety, training, and certification requirements.
• Conduct daily work site Safety Inspections and Foreign Object Damage (FOD) Inspections using checklists.
• Monitor tool control programs and maintain records to ensure measuring and test equipment meets calibration requirements.
• Maintain Quality, Safety, Training, and Certification Records.
• Coordinate with the Customer Quality Assurance Representative on quality matters, mandatory inspection points, and final acceptance inspections.
• Inspect forms and records related to aircraft maintenance, including engine oil consumption, logs, hydraulic contamination, NDI, and weight and balance.
• Assist in developing and maintaining ground and flight operation standard operating procedures, quality plans, and safety plans.
• Assist maintenance in briefing and debriefing functional check flights.
• Use Government computer systems to access technical references for airframe repairs and training requirements.
• Document maintenance per Quality Assurance (QA) and regulatory requirements.
• Comply with work order timekeeping procedures.
• Maintain cleanliness using a "clean-as-you-go" process during maintenance duties.
• Perform weekly FOD walk-downs and maintain situational awareness to mitigate risks.
• Comply with DHS/DOD processes and procedures.
• Report missing, lost, or unattended tools immediately to the supervisor.
• Maintain and control tools in accordance with tool control policies.
• Inventory and inspect tools regularly to identify worn or broken tools and report replacement needs.
• Clean work areas and ensure proper storage of hazardous materials.
• Handle hazardous materials and wastes in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Follow safety rules and report accidents, injuries, or unsafe practices promptly.
• Perform weekly cleaning duties for break rooms and smoking areas.
• Perform other assigned duties, including potential travel to other sites.

Requirements

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a CBP Background Investigation Suitability clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Five (5) years of experience in rotary wing aircraft.
• Valid Airframe and Power Plant (A&P) License.
• Valid FAA Inspection Authorization (IA).
• Ability to obtain a government flight line driver’s license.
• Valid United States driver's license.
• Experience providing technical support to structural/mechanical engineers and customers.
• Excellent organizational skills to prioritize workload and meet aircraft delivery schedules.
• Ability to read and interpret data.
• Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.

Physical Requirements & Working Environment

• Capable of lifting, reaching, bending, walking, pulling, sitting, standing, crouching, stooping, kneeling, and stretching for prolonged periods.
• Ability to work in cramped, awkward, or strained positions, including climbing ladders, work platforms, scaffolding, and aircraft structures.
• Capable of carrying items up to 40 pounds; assistance required for heavier objects.
• Ability to wear cumbersome personal protective equipment for HAZMAT operations.
• May be required to work night shifts.
• Work environment includes aircraft maintenance hangars or outdoor settings.
• Some domestic travel may be required.

Pay

Hourly Rate: $45.83
