Aircraft Mechanic III - Fleet Operations Division

About the role

Performs highly advanced diagnostic and repair work involving fixed and/or rotary-wing pressurized cabin, passenger aircraft with multi-engine reciprocating or turbine engines, and single-engine non-pressurized aircraft for special purpose and passenger use. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.

Responsibilities

• Travels with aircrew to perform aircraft maintenance-related activities and/or repair and retrieve grounded aircraft.
• Assembles and installs electrical, plumbing, mechanical, hydraulic, and structural components and accessories, using hand tools and power tools.
• Conducts routine and non-routine aircraft maintenance inspections as required by regulations.
• Diagnostics, adjusts, repairs and/or overhauls aircraft components and systems to include aircraft engines/assemblies involving electrical, electronic, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Disassembles engines, and inspects parts such as turbine blades and cylinders for corrosion, wear, warping, cracks and leaks using precision measuring instruments, magnetic inspection equipment.
• Inspects airframes for wear or other defects; checks for corrosion, distortion, and invisible cracks in the fuselage, wings, and tail, or propellers using magnetic inspection equipment.
• Provides assistance to other mechanics in maintenance or repair procedures.
• Repairs and replaces pumps, engines, propellers, instruments, landing gear, airframe, control surfaces, and/or fuel systems.
• Moves critical aircraft components using specialized equipment such as forklifts or overhead cranes.
• Reports completed maintenance and repair work to lead worker.
• Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
• Experience: 5 years of experience in Fixed/Rotary wing aircraft maintenance and repair work.
• Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle. Airframe Mechanic Cert Cert Powerplant Mechanic.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on maintenance with AS350B3 and/or Cessna Caravan 208B aircraft, along with strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Medium work: Lift up to 50 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs
• Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions with noise, vibration, and atmospheric conditions (fumes, dusts, odors, mists, gases or poor ventilation)
• Subject to hazards such as moving vehicles/mechanical parts, high places/heat, or chemicals and works in narrow aisles and passageways
• Movement: Climbing (ladders, stairs, scaffolding, etc) and Balancing (multiple surfaces, uneven walkways, etc)
• Standing: Standing (long periods), Stooping/Kneeling (bending at the waist and/or resting/working on knees), Crouching (bending knees and spine) and Crawling (hands and feet/knees)

• Repetitive Motion: substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and fingers
• Closed Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading, visual inspection of small defects/parts, using measurement devices; and assembly or fabrication of parts
• Operation: Operate machines (drill presses, power saws, etc.), motor vehicles and heavy equipment
