CBP Aircraft Mechanic II position focused on maintaining, repairing, and modifying aircraft structures and systems of moderate difficulty.

Responsibilities

  • Apply technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to determine equipment malfunctions and restore equipment condition or operation.
  • Perform daily, flight line, and hangar maintenance on assigned aircraft.
  • Conduct inspections, corrosion control, troubleshooting, and fault isolation on aircraft systems.
  • Use hand tools (special tools and test equipment provided by Customs) to perform maintenance.
  • Occasionally lead teams through complex aircraft tasks.
  • Make entries in aircraft logs and records.
  • Prioritize workload schedules on assigned projects.
  • Travel periodically in support of customers’ missions.
  • Follow procedures for handling and disposal of hazardous waste materials.
  • Read, interpret, and apply technical documentation such as blueprints, manuals, schematics, and directives.

Requirements

  • Valid State driver’s license.
  • Willingness to submit to random drug tests.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a CBP Background Investigation Suitability clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
  • Valid FAA Mechanic certificate with Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) ratings.
  • Competence in repair and maintenance of fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft, including airframes, hydraulics, fuel systems, electrical systems, and engines.
  • Proficiency in system troubleshooting, reading schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
  • Reliability, good judgment, and ability to follow procedures.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and maintain workflow.
  • Fluency in English (reading, writing, verbal communication).
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret technical data.

Physical Requirements

  • Physically able to perform aircraft mechanic duties, including moving freely within aircraft interiors and meeting weight limits.
  • Ability to stand, squat, sit, walk, and work with arms overhead for extended periods.
  • May require wearing a respirator.
  • Pull, push, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasional work in high-noise areas requiring ear protection.

Preferred Qualifications

  • FAA Inspection Authorization (IA).

Pay

Hourly rate: $42.77. Actual compensation may vary based on job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, and applicable laws or agreements.
