Aircraft Mechanic I (Sheetmetal/Structures UH-60/AH-64/CH-47) CBA JBLM, WA

About the role

Repairs and replaces aircraft structural components including stingers, longerons, bulkheads, beams and aircraft skin according to drawings, blueprints, directives, technical manuals and safety procedures. Repairs, fabricates, modifies and installs structural parts, forming blocks, and shapes metal using stretching, shrinking, and other metal forming techniques. Mixes and applies fiberglass materials. Balances rotary-wing aircraft blades. Makes emergency and permanent repairs to transparent plastic windows and enclosures.

Responsibilities

• Use common measuring tools, precision measuring gages, and alignment fixtures to perform structural repairs
• Perform checks; carry out inspections and removal of components
• Mix and apply primers and paints to aircraft surfaces
• Apply corrosion control treatment to aircraft metals
• Comprehend technical manuals, blueprints, and engineering drawings
• Requisition bench stock for repair of aircraft structures
• Prepare request for turn ins and repair parts and structural components
• Use and perform operator maintenance on common and special tools
• Perform final checks on assembly and installation of parts that were replaced
• Prepare forms and records related to aircraft maintenance
• Assist aircraft technicians and mechanics on various tasks
• Remove and disassemble defective parts of the aircraft
• Maintain the supplies and perform preventive maintenance
• Perform additional duties, including maintenance duties, as requested
• Adhere to company policies and safety programs (Safety-first mentality)

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required
• U.S. military technical school or specialized training course is desired; certification of education level is required
• Valid up-to-date A&P license (optional)
• Three years aviation maintenance experience, two years rotary wing aircraft experience, and two years on the assigned Mission Design Series (MDS)
• All experience must be within the six most recent years
• Valid Driver's License
• Must provide own tools/toolbox (toolbox requirements provided upon selection)
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI (T1) Public Trust Security Clearance
• Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization
• US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization to work at this facility

Required Knowledge & Skills

• Thorough knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair
• Basic knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, hydraulic press machine, sheet metal brakes and sheers, and those listed in the assigned MDS Maintenance Allocation Chart (MAC)
• Working knowledge of technical publications and Logistics Information Systems
• Able to prioritize workloads to maintain schedules on assigned projects
• Possess the level of experience to inspect all required aeronautical type maintenance to be performed by Sheetmetal/Structural Mechanic
• Receives technical guidance as required from supervisor or higher-level technician
• Occasionally required to lead teams through more complex aircraft relevant tasks
• May be required to make entries in aircraft logs and records

Physical Requirements & Working Environment

• Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for extended periods throughout the day
• Must be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands
• Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders
• May be required to lift/push/pull heavy objects whose weight may exceed 50 pounds
• Must be able to type using a standard keyboard to communicate through e-mail and various software applications
• Will handle dirty parts and lubricants
• Will be required to wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
• Must be able to pass a Respirator Physical and Fit Test qualification
• May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, forklift, etc.
• May work in maintenance shop or outside
• Must be able to work in a shop where the environment is drafty, noisy, and dirty
• May be exposed to extreme noise from operating equipment
• May be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts or vehicles
• May be expected to work in austere environments and all-weather conditions

Pay

Hourly Rate of Pay: $43.78 - $45.31 (Hourly rate set by CBA)
