About the role
The Aircraft Mechanic I (Sheetmetal/Structures UH-60, AH-64, CH-47) repairs and replaces aircraft structural components, mixes and applies fiberglass materials, balances rotary-wing aircraft blades, makes emergency and permanent repairs to transparent plastic windows and enclosures, uses common measuring tools, precision measuring gages, and alignment fixtures, prepares forms and records related to aircraft maintenance, assists aircraft technicians and mechanics on various tasks, removes and disassembles defective parts of the aircraft, maintains supplies, performs preventive maintenance, and performs additional duties as requested.
Responsibilities
- Repairs and replaces aircraft structural components
- Mixes and applies fiberglass materials
- Balances rotary-wing aircraft blades
- Makes emergency and permanent repairs to transparent plastic windows and enclosures
- Uses common measuring tools, precision measuring gages, and alignment fixtures to perform structural repairs
- Performs checks; carries out inspections and removal of components
- Mixes and applies primers and paints to aircraft surfaces
- Applies corrosion control treatment to aircraft metals
- Comprehends technical manuals, blueprints, and engineering drawings
- Requisitions bench stock for repair of aircraft structures
- Prepares request for turn ins and repair parts and structural components
- Uses and performs operator maintenance on common and special tools
- Performs final checks on assembly and installation of parts that were replaced
- Prepares forms and records related to aircraft maintenance
- Affords assistance to aircraft technicians and mechanics on various tasks
- Removes and disassembles defective parts of the aircraft
- Maintains the supplies and performs preventive maintenance
- Performs additional duties, including maintenance duties, as requested
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- U.S. military technical school or specialized training course desired, certification of education level required
- Valid up-to-date A&P license (optional)
- Three years aviation maintenance experience, two years rotary wing aircraft experience, and two years on the assigned Mission Design Series (MDS)
- Valid Driver’s License
- Must provide own tools/toolbox
- Eligible to obtain a Passport and travel internationally (applicable to OCONUS work sites)
Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair
- Basic knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, hydraulic press machine, sheet metal brakes and sheers and those listed in the assigned MDS Maintenance Allocation Chart (MAC)
- Working knowledge of technical publications and Logistics Information Systems
- Able to prioritize workloads to maintain schedules on assigned projects
- Possesses the level of experience to inspect all required aeronautical type maintenance to be performed by Sheetmetal/Structural Mechanic

- Bi-weekly accrual of 5.70 hours (0 to less than 60 months)
- Bi-weekly accrual of 7.70 hours (60 months but less than 120 months)

Pay
Hiring hourly range: $91,436.80 - $43.96 (Hourly rate set by CBA)
Schedule
Day shift, swing shift, night shift, and/or weekend shift (if applicable) – As required for CBA.
Clearance Requirements
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI(T1) Public Trust Security Clearance
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
- Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for extended periods throughout the day
- Must be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands
- Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders
- May be required to lift/push/pull heavy objects whose weight may exceed 50 pounds
- Must be able to type using a standard keyboard to communicate through e-mail and various software applications
- Will handle dirty parts and lubricants
- Will be required to wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Must be able to pass a Respirator Physical and Fit Test qualification
- May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, forklift, etc.
- May work in maintenance shop or outside
- Must be able to work in a shop where the environment is drafty, noisy, and dirty
- May be exposed to extreme noise from operating equipment
- May be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts or vehicles
- May be expected to work in austere environments and all-weather conditions
