About the role

The Aircraft Sheetmetal Mechanic I is responsible for fabricating, installing, and maintaining sheet-metal equipment and fixtures on aircraft. Duties include reading and analyzing work requests, developing and drawing working sketches, manufacturing aircraft sheet metal parts, and ensuring finished parts meet quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lay out sheet-metal maintenance work from blueprints, models, or specifications
  • Set up and operate sheet-metal working machines
  • Cut, bend, form, shape, fit, and assemble sheet-metal articles
  • Install sheet-metal articles as required
  • Develop and manufacture repair parts from prints, drawings, or original parts
  • Lay out, cut, form, shape, and assemble complex sheet metal items
  • Use shears, Do-All saw, and turret punch to cut metal sheet
  • Form metal using cornice brake, punch press, drill press, and similar tools
  • Finish and smooth edges of metal sheet
  • Assemble and fasten fabricated parts with rivets, screws, nuts, and bolts
  • Ensure finished aircraft parts meet quality standards
  • Work inside fuel tanks or other confined spaces as needed
  • Follow safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment

Requirements

  • Valid up-to-date A&P license or three (3) years aviation maintenance experience, two (2) years rotary wing aircraft experience, and two (2) years on the assigned MDS (Sheetmetal)
  • Able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization (US Citizenship required)
  • Own shadowed/etched tools and toolbox

Qualifications

  • Two (2) or more years actual and recent experience in the repair, modification, maintenance, and overhaul of aircraft
  • Thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures, and replacement of parts
  • Broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair
  • Basic knowledge of electrical theory and thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes, and sheers
  • Working knowledge of technical publications and Logistics Information Systems
  • Able to prioritize workloads to maintain schedules on assigned projects and lead teams through more complex aircraft relevant tasks
  • Possess the ability to inspect all required aeronautical type maintenance to be performed by Mechanics
