Aircraft Mechanic I – C-130 Hydraulics

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Aircraft Mechanic with experience in C-130 hydraulic systems to join our maintenance team, specializing in performing C-130 aircraft Letter Checks. The successful candidate will perform on-equipment and off-equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairing pneumatic and hydraulic systems and components on C-130 aircraft. The mechanic will inspect, troubleshoot malfunctions, rig, repair, and modify aircraft structures, structural components, and aircraft systems of moderate difficulty. Responsibilities include maintaining and repairing aircraft components such as landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, ventilation, heating and cooling systems, and mechanical components.

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on C-130 pneumatic and hydraulic systems, including flight controls, landing gear, and hydraulic power system components (e.g., brakes, struts, accumulators, reservoirs, and actuators).
• Systematically analyze malfunctions, perform operational checks, and troubleshoot simple to complex hydraulic issues using applicable technical orders (TOs) and Interactive Electronics Technical Manuals (IETMs).
• Remove, install, overhaul, and bench-check hydraulic system components, ensuring precise calibration and alignment.
• Operate and maintain hydraulic test stands, pumping units, and other specialized test and support equipment (SE) necessary for aircraft maintenance.
• Read and interpret schematic diagrams, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical orders to accurately isolate faults and complete repairs.
• Document all maintenance actions, parts replaced, and inspection results accurately in the appropriate maintenance information systems and aircraft forms (e.g., AFTO 781-series forms or equivalent).
• Adhere to all safety protocols, including the proper handling, use, and disposal of hazardous waste and materials in accordance with local, state, and federal environmental standards.
• Assist with aircraft ground handling, servicing, lubrication, corrosion control, and routine pre-flight or post-flight inspections as directed.

Requirements

• Thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical components with the ability to troubleshoot, adjust, repair, and replace parts/components.
• Broad working knowledge of C-130J/H aircraft systems including hydraulics, structures, engines, refuel pods, and electrical systems.
• Experience performing periodic, hourly, special, or calendar inspections.
• Basic knowledge of electrical theory and thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, and powered/non-powered support equipment.
• Proficient with using USAF Technical Orders, the Data Transfer and Diagnostic System (DTADS), and documentation of AFTO 781 forms.
• Experience with aircraft launch/recovery, performing preflight, thru-flight, and basic post-flight and corrosion inspections.
• Prior experience as Refuel/Defuel, Aircraft Jack, and Tow Team Supervisor.
• Experience performing other miscellaneous aircraft services including but not limited to LOX, Hydraulic, and Engine Oil, service aircraft tire/struts, and familiarity with handling HAZMAT/HAZWASTE materials.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOW Secret Security Clearance and access as required by the contract.

Qualifications

• Six (6) years of experience on C-130 aircraft as a 2A6X5 (Preferred).
• Performed as 7-Level Aircraft Mechanic or equivalent (Preferred).
• C-130 Advanced Systems School (Preferred).
• Basic C-130J aircraft system knowledge (Preferred).

Work Environment & Physical Demands

The work is primarily performed in hangars, on the flight line, and in specialized repair shops. The environment may involve exposure to high noise levels, hazardous chemicals (such as aviation fuels and hydraulic fluids), and moving machinery. Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Strict adherence to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements is mandatory. Must be able to work flexible shifts, including nights and weekends, depending on operational requirements and aircraft maintenance schedules.
