Aircraft Mechanic Avionics - VMG

Aircraft Mechanics-Avionics perform organizational, intermediate, and limited depot-level maintenance, including inspection, operational testing, repair, modification, and troubleshooting on assigned aircraft, components, and equipment. This role applies advanced technical knowledge to solve complex problems and provides technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to other employees.

Responsibilities

• Test and troubleshoot weapons systems, complex avionics/electrical systems, communication/navigation systems, electronic flight controls, fuel systems, power generators, power distribution systems, lighting systems, flight instruments, temperature and pressure indicators, engine and control indications, ATFLIR, Electronic Counter Measures, and RADAR systems.
• Provide technical assistance and communication during aircrew debriefs.
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical directives, planning documents, test specifications, technical publications, procedures, and safety manuals.
• Perform corrosion detection, treatment, and prevention.
• Troubleshoot malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, hydraulic systems, engines, auxiliary power units, ventilation, and heating systems to ensure safe operating conditions.
• Work in hangar, shop, or flight line environments, requiring physical movements such as lifting objects up to 70 pounds.
• Operate in diverse conditions, including inclement weather, high-noise areas, and exposure to fumes, airborne particles, or electrical shock hazards.
• Perform off-site service on assigned detachments as required.

Requirements

• Minimum three years of experience in aircraft maintenance.
• Experience in corrosion detection, treatment, and prevention.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid state driver’s license.
• Ability to work all assigned shifts and schedules.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain required qualifications, certifications, licensing, or clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Recent experience with F-18A-F, EA-18G, E-2C, or F-16 aircraft.
• High degree of expertise in aircraft systems, avionics theory, and applications.
• In-depth knowledge of maintenance/technical manuals, publications, instructions, and special tools/test equipment.
• Familiarity with operational capabilities and limitations of aircraft systems.
• Thorough working knowledge of corrosion detection, prevention, and treatment.
• Working knowledge of aircraft sub-systems, including maintenance parameters, operations, and technical orders.
• Customer-oriented mindset.

Licensing & Certification Requirements

• Formal/Specialized Training or equivalent.
• Hazardous Waste Communication Training.
• FOD and TCP Awareness Training.
• Security Clearance Awareness Training.
• COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 Program Awareness.
• NALCOMIS/OOMA Training (preferred).
• ESD Training.
• Support Equipment Operator’s License (Tow Tractor, N2 Servicing Trailer, and Mobile Start Unit at a minimum).
• Collateral Duty Inspector (in 2 T/M/S aircraft).
• Egress System Checkout.
• Plane Captain Qualified (preferred).
• Aircraft Towing Certified (preferred).
• Aircraft Brake Rider Certified.
• Operational Risk Management (ORM) Training.
• Fuel Surveillance Training (preferred).

Pay

Hiring hourly rate of pay: $54.47 (set by Collective Bargaining Agreement).
