Aircraft Maintenance Technician - 1040

About the role

As an Aircraft Maintenance Technician at West Star, you will perform a variety of mechanical tasks on some of the most sophisticated civilian aircraft in the world. No two days are the same—each brings new experiences and opportunities for growth in troubleshooting, repairs, and inspections.

Responsibilities

• Perform general mechanical tasks on aircraft and related systems
• Remove and install panels and components
• Troubleshoot and problem-solve aircraft system/component issues
• De-fuel aircraft
• Perform engine removal and installations
• Operate ground support equipment
• Inspect and evaluate aircraft and components
• Assist in aircraft movement, performance runs, and taxiing
• Maintain and repair shop facility, equipment, and tooling
• Immediately notify the Lead Mechanic of any issues with parts, materials, workmanship, or airworthiness
• Provide the Lead Mechanic with a detailed report of work progression and open items for the shift turnover log
• Properly tag and store aircraft components, parts, and panels
• Use basic computer skills to navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance databases
• Work rotating shifts, including nights, holidays, weekends, and days off
• Communicate effectively in English (speaking, writing, reading)
• Perform any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Airframe and Powerplant License (required)
• Valid driver’s license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport (ideal)
• Self-motivated and able to perform in a fast-paced environment with specific deadlines and time constraints
• Reliable attendance, including overtime and weekend assignments
• Reliable transportation to work daily
• Adherence to Federal Aviation Administration guidelines and company safety rules
• Customer-oriented work habits

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift 70 lbs
• Routine walking, bending, squatting, or sitting
• Routine or repetitive physical motion with arms and hands
• Work on elevated platforms (up to 40 ft. in the air) using fall protection safety gear
• Work in small, restricted areas
• Stand for long periods of time

Mental Requirements

• Understand and implement regulations and guidelines
• Troubleshoot or evaluate system operation
• Work professionally with others

Working Conditions

• Work performed in a hangar environment with extreme temperature variations (very cold to very hot)
• Work outside during aircraft runs
• Varied positions in and around the aircraft

Equipment Used

• Personal hand tools (supplied by the mechanic)
• Pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical equipment
• Jacks, stands, lifts, and other support devices
• Tugs, power carts, and other engine-powered equipment

Supervision

Work under the supervision of an assigned Team Leader and Director of Maintenance. May be directed to supervise other technicians in some capacity.

Pay

The hourly rate for this position generally ranges between $30.00 and $60.00. Actual hourly rate varies based on factors including location, experience, and performance. Additional compensation includes a shift differential for alternate shifts, a semi-annual discretionary bonus, 401(k) company match, and employer contributions to a Health Savings Account (HSA).
