About the role

As a Composite Technician, you will repair parts and components using "Wet Layup" and "Prepreg" methods. Some repairs require a clean room and curing via autoclave or controlled oven. Composite bonding methods include co-curing, co-bonding, secondary bonding, metal bonding with liquid or film adhesives.

Responsibilities

  • Use close tolerance measuring tools (e.g., scales, micrometers, calipers, depth gages).
  • Use hand tools (e.g., drill motors, die grinders, rivet guns, fastener installation tools).
  • Perform alignment/assembly using jigs, templates, and fixtures.
  • Use PPE when cutting, grinding, blending, and sanding.
  • Extensive use of bagging materials for a wide range of component shapes and styles.
  • Use a "Hot-Bonder" type machine for cure procedures.
  • Maintain, clean, and repair shop facilities, equipment, and tooling.
  • Safely operate shop equipment such as curing ovens, autoclaves, and vacuum systems.
  • Navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance databases using basic computer skills.
  • Communicate effectively in English (speaking, writing, reading).
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Airframe and Powerplant License is welcome but not required.
  • Valid driver’s license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport (ideal but not mandatory).
  • Journeyman: 0-5 years of experience as a composite technician.
  • Master: 5+ years of experience as a composite technician.
  • Self-motivated and able to perform in a fast-paced environment with specific deadlines.
  • Reliable transportation to ensure daily attendance.
  • Adhere to Federal Aviation Administration guidelines and company safety rules.
  • Customer-oriented work habits.

Physical Requirements

  • Lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Routine walking, bending, squatting, or sitting.
  • Repetitive physical motion with arms and hands.
  • Climb ladders and stairs; work in small restricted areas.
  • Stand for long periods of time.

Mental Requirements

  • Understand and implement regulations and guidelines.
  • Troubleshoot or evaluate system operation.
  • Work professionally with others.

Supervision

Work under the supervision of an assigned Team Leader.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in controlled environments within industrial warehouses.
  • Multiple departments include Teardown/Evaluation, Nacelles, and Composite.

Equipment Used

  • Personal hand tools (supplied by the mechanic).
  • Pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical equipment.
