About The Position

The Clark County Department of Environment & Sustainability is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Air Quality Specialist I/II Position(s) for the Compliance and Enforcement, Planning, and Permitting Sections. These positions perform a variety of professional and technical tasks in air quality management and pollution control for Clark County.

Compliance and Enforcement Section

  • Frequently works in a field environment and conducts on-site air quality compliance inspections of minor stationary sources, construction sites, and vacant land;
  • Performs compliance surveillance on PM10 emission sources and construction sites during wind advisories;
  • Responds to citizen complaints;
  • Observes tests of air pollution control equipment;
  • Prepares and/or reviews technical documents including inspection reports and Notices of Violation;
  • Performs research and analysis, participates in studies and projects, and provides information to the industry and public regarding pollution control compliance methods and devices;
  • Promotes a positive image of Air Quality to the general public.

Planning Section

  • Provides technical support in regional air quality planning, including assisting in the development of new air quality regulations and strategies to reduce air pollutants;
  • Stays informed about regulatory changes and emerging technologies and conducts assessments of air quality conditions to inform planning and policy decisions;
  • Presents findings and collaborates with stakeholder and external partners on air quality initiatives.

Permitting Section

  • Processes applications, reviews a variety of regulations, and prepares air quality permits with supporting documentation;
  • Requires the ability to research technical information and conduct technical analyses relating to potential emissions, pollution control technologies, and suitable compliance demonstration measures;
  • Affairs also involve assessing industrial processes, deciphering data, and determining whether additional information must be submitted to the department;
  • The incumbent collaborates closely with internal staff and representatives of the regulated community.

Air Quality Specialist I: $31.20 - $46.05 Hourly
Air Quality Specialist II: $33.65 - 49.74 Hourly

The Air Quality Specialist I is a training underfill position, upon successful completion of the training program the successful candidate will be non-competitively promoted to Air Quality Specialist II. This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months at either level or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education and Experience:
  • Air Quality Specialist I - Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in environmental, chemical, mechanical or civil engineering, biology, chemistry, physics or a related field.
  • Air Quality Specialist II – In addition to the above; minimum of one (1) year of full-time experience comparable to that of an Air Quality Specialist I.

Working Conditions

  • Work out of doors in various weather conditions, dust and noise.
  • May require working around asbestos requiring them to wear protective equipment, including negative pressure respirators.
  • May attend meetings outside of normal business hours.

Licensing and Certification

  • Possession of a valid Nevada Class C Driver's License at time of appointment.

Background Investigation

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.

Citizenship

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Please note, Clark County does not provide H1B visa sponsorships or transfers for any employment positions.

Medical Examination

Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician. Specified positions may require a medical exam to determine ability to wear respiratory protection apparatus.

Pre-Employment Drug Testing

Specified positions may be contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug screening.
