AIR CONDITIONING/HEATING TECHNICIAN
About the role
The City of Torrance is recruiting for an Air Conditioning/Heating Technician to be part of the General Services Team. The Department includes: Airport Administration, Building Maintenance, Central Services, Cultural Arts Center Administration, Custodial, Fleet Services, Graffiti Abatement Program and HVAC /Electrical.
Responsibilities
The Air Conditioning/Heating Technician inspects, maintains, repairs, and installs air conditioning, heating, and ventilation equipment. This position inspects, tests, repairs, maintains and services all types of refrigeration, hot water, forced air heating and ventilation equipment, electronic and electrical components; installs, adjusts and replaces valves, fans, blowers, gaskets, filters, belts, switches, gauges, thermostats, tubing, and transformers; flushes boilers; uses various testing devices to locate defective parts; makes necessary electrical connections and repairs; checks and tests new equipment before installation; and does related work as required.
Qualifications
- Four years of journey level experience inspecting, testing, maintaining, repairing and installing air conditioning, heating, and ventilation equipment and component parts; or two years of journey level experience plus completion of a refrigeration/heating apprentice training program.
- No specific minimum education required.
- Must possess and maintain an appropriate, valid California Class III driver's license.
Skills
Successful Candidates Will Possess The Following Demonstrated Comprehensive Experience in Inspecting, Maintaining, Repairing, and Installing HVAC and Refrigeration Systems; Strong Working Knowledge of Commercial HVAC Systems and Components, Including Chillers, Boilers, Compressors, Pneumatic Controls, and Electrical Systems; Proficiency Using Industry Tools and Diagnostic Equipment (e.g., ohm meters, vacuum pumps, thermometers) to Troubleshoot and Resolve Mechanical and Electrical Issues; Demonstrated Knowledge of Applicable Codes, Regulations, and Industry Standards, Including the Uniform Mechanical Code, as Well as Established Safety Practices and Procedures; and Strong Capacity to Work Independently, Follow Instructions, and Collaborate Effectively with Team Members.
