Provide support/services to students with disabilities in a variety of educational settings to access the curriculum in the student's least restrictive environment. Assist teacher and staff in performing tasks by implementing and documenting the student's individualized education plan. Maintain a safe and engaging environment for all students.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with students in various settings to ensure safety and engagement (e.g., community/campus sites, classroom, hallways, restroom, arrival/departure).
  • Assist with student management by maintaining alert supervision at all times.
  • Execute behavioral strategies as identified by the teacher based on ARD documents (e.g., reinforcements, consequences, contingencies).
  • Collaborate with campus special education teachers on developing task analysis and implementing job/work-related skills from student’s IEPs.
  • Assist students with personal care services and mobility (e.g., feeding, cleaning, dressing, lifting, positioning, transitioning, toileting, changing, arrival/departure).
  • Maintain data, documentation, and student progress in collaboration with teachers during campus and community training assignments.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information and secure proper forms for emergency procedures.
  • May require travel and possible transporting of students in Fort Bend ISD vehicles.
  • Work outside 25 percent of the time, potentially exposed to elements and inclement weather.
  • May have exposure to bodily fluids and must be capable of physically restraining students when necessary using approved de-escalation/restraint techniques.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 48 college hours or passing score on the Para Professional Assessment of Knowledge and Skills Test.
  • Texas Educational Aide Certification (to obtain within 10 business days of start date).
  • De-Escalation/Restraint Certification or obtain within 30 days of hire (District-provided).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in using Windows Operating System and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed in classrooms, offices, work stations, and meeting rooms.
  • Occasional walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting/carrying items weighing less than 40 pounds (e.g., books, papers, presentation materials).
  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Attendance at conferences and professional development is required.
  • Must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.
  • May work prolonged or irregular hours.

This position is funded by grant funds and may be discontinued if grant funds are no longer available.
