About the role
The Voice Artificial Intelligence (AI) Lab at USF Health's Department of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery is a translational research laboratory. The lab is dedicated to advancing the diagnosis and treatment of voice and swallowing disorders through artificial intelligence, machine learning, and speech technology. The work sits at the intersection of clinical medicine, acoustics, and data science — developing AI-powered tools that improve patient outcomes and expand access to voice care.
Responsibilities
- Design, train, and evaluate machine learning models for voice disorder detection, classification, and severity assessment.
- Develop and fine-tune deep learning architectures (CNNs, RNNs, Transformers) for audio and speech signal processing.
- Build and maintain data pipelines for acoustic feature extraction, preprocessing, and model training.
- Integrate large language models (LLMs) and speech-to-text systems into clinical and research workflows.
- Develop clean, well-documented, and reproducible code in Python for research and production use.
- Build REST APIs and backend services to expose AI model functionality to clinical applications.
- Package and deploy AI models to cloud or on-premise environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- Collaborate with front-end developers or clinicians to integrate AI outputs into user-facing tools.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related field required -OR- equivalent combination of related education and experience.
- Minimum Qualifications that require a high school diploma are exempt from SB 1310.
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Data Science, or a closely related field.
