About The Role We are seeking an experienced AI Engineer 5 to join our team specializing in MLX, Agentic AI, and Gen AI platform services. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and deploying scalable AI systems that directly impact how we serve our customers and support our internal teams. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including research scientists, engineers, and product managers, to create innovative AI-powered products that are responsible, efficient, and scalable. Your expertise will help shape the technical vision and long-term roadmap of our foundational AI systems, ensuring they meet high standards of performance, cost-efficiency, and ethical compliance. Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical foundation combined with a passion for innovative AI development. A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, or related fields, along with at least six years of experience in developing AI and ML algorithms, is required. Alternatively, a Master’s degree with at least four years of relevant experience will also be considered. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Go, Scala, CUDA, or Java is essential. Candidates should demonstrate experience in deploying scalable AI solutions on cloud platforms like AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure, and have a deep understanding of AI system optimization, multi-model orchestration, and responsible AI standards. Experience in building agentic AI systems, applying cutting-edge research, and leading technical initiatives is highly desirable. Strong communication skills and the ability to articulate complex AI concepts to diverse audiences are also critical for success in this role. Responsibilities Partner with cross-functional teams to develop AI-powered products that enhance customer interactions and internal workflows.Design, implement, test, and support AI software components, including foundation model training, large language model inference, agents, multi-agent workflows, similarity search, and governance tools.Leverage open-source and SaaS AI technologies such as AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, VectorDBs, and PyTorch to build scalable AI solutions.Innovate and apply state-of-the-art foundation model optimization techniques to improve performance metrics such as scalability, latency, throughput, and cost-efficiency.Contribute to the strategic vision and long-term roadmap for foundational AI systems at Capital One.Design and optimize multi-model orchestration pipelines integrating LLMs, vector search, and domain-specific models into unified systems.Establish governance practices, including cost-performance reviews, GPU utilization tracking, and inference cost management.Lead design review boards and technical councils to ensure consistency, standards compliance, and best practices across AI engineering initiatives.Mentor senior AI engineers, fostering organizational growth, cross-domain learning, and technical excellence.
