About the role

Our client, an investment firm, is seeking an AI Engineer to join their team in New York, NY! You'll join the Core Engineering team building an internal developer platform designed to transform the engineering experience across the company. This platform sits at the center of how engineers work — and your job is to make that experience faster, smarter, and more intuitive using AI. This is a high-visibility, high-impact build: the kind of infrastructure work that quietly touches every product the company ships.

Responsibilities

• Design and build backend services in Python that power Ava's core functionality.
• Integrate Claude (Anthropic's AI models) into developer tooling to create intelligent, AI-assisted workflows.
• Work closely with SQL-based data layers to support Ava's features and performance.
• Take ownership of features from concept to production — this is a 0-to-1 environment where you'll ship real functionality, not just prototype it.
• Collaborate with the core engineering team to understand pain points in the developer workflow and translate them into tooling improvements.
• Contribute to architectural decisions as Ava evolves from an internal tool into critical company infrastructure.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency in Python and SQL.
• Hands-on experience building applications with AI/LLM tools — specifically Claude.
• Demonstrated experience taking a product or feature from 0 to 1 and deploying it into production.
• Comfort working in ambiguity and building tooling from the ground up.
• A collaborative mindset — you'll be building for other engineers, so empathy for the developer experience matters.

Pay

$90 - $120/hr
