AI Coach

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Facilitate planning, execution, and tracking of team projects
• Review project descriptions and milestones; adjust scope with Challenge Advisor and subject matter expert
• Support student team project plans with sub-tasks and goals
• Help manage project repository, task board, README, and workflows in GitHub
• Create and manage task lists with clear ownership and deadlines
• Ensure detailed project documentation in GitHub and other workspaces
• Conduct regular asynchronous progress check-ins
• Guide teams in identifying and addressing technical/interpersonal blockers
• Work with Challenge Advisors, Mentors, and Program staff; schedule 1:1 meetings as needed

Facilitation & Assessment

• Facilitate live virtual weekly team labs via Zoom (3-hour events)
• Help teams prepare for meetings with industry advisors; attend as observer
• Lead check-ins during weekly lab sections
• Provide technical support and design virtual mini-lessons
• Grade assignments and presentations with meaningful feedback
• Conduct code reviews and support pair programming
• Maintain attendance records

Fellow Engagement and Participation

• Ensure equitable participation and active engagement
• Monitor team collaboration tools (Google Colab, GitHub, Discord)
• Intervene on engagement issues; provide coaching and support
• Flag concerns to program staff
• Support Fellow development in partnership with Mentors and Challenge Advisors

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Commitment to supporting undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds
• Inclusive and equitable working relationships
• Strong technical project management industry experience
• Proficient understanding of ML concepts (LLMs, neural networks, generative AI, image classification)
• Familiarity with AI tools (Copilot, Claude Code)
• Hands-on experience with VS Code, Jupyter notebooks, Google Colab
• Teaching, coaching, or mentoring experience (or ability to learn)
• Excellent communication and facilitation skills
• Thrive in virtual work environment

Education and/or Experience

• Prior Break Through Tech and/or ML Foundations experience preferred
• Advanced degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or related field
• Experience with virtual instruction or team facilitation
• Experience leading junior technical teams

Compensation and Hours

• Pay rate: $35 per hour
• Type: Part-time, remote, temporary (August 3, 2026 – December 31, 2026). Strong performers may extend to April 30, 2027
• Expected hours: 20–30 hours per week
• Benefits: Not eligible
• Visa sponsorship: Not available
• Training: ~15–20 hours of pre-program training in August
• Schedule: Most Labs and meetings after 6pm local time
