Agriculture or Agricultural Production, Initial Focus: Veterinary Technology Instructor

Salary: Full-Time Faculty, Tenure-Track position at Ventura College.

About the Role

Under the general direction of a dean, an Instructor provides comprehensive classroom instruction to students from diverse backgrounds to facilitate the attainment of their academic or vocational objectives. This is a full-time, tenure-track position beginning in the Spring 2027 semester. The recruitment will remain open until filled, with initial review of applications in September 2026.

In addition to standard instructional duties, this position will lead the Veterinary Technology program's efforts to obtain and maintain American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) accreditation, including program evaluation and ensuring courses meet accreditation standards. The instructor will also serve on the College's Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) to monitor the humane use of live animals in instruction and form partnerships with industry professionals, businesses, and nonprofit organizations to secure animals, educational resources, volunteers, guest lecturers, and field trips.

All academic employees may be scheduled for nontraditional assignments such as evening, weekend, or off-site work, depending on staffing needs and special campus conditions, as defined in the VCCCD/AFT Agreement.

About Ventura College

Established in 1925, Ventura College is one of California’s first community colleges, with an enrollment of 14,500 students. Located approximately 60 miles north of Los Angeles and 30 miles south of Santa Barbara, the 112-acre campus offers views of the Channel Islands. Responsibilities

• Provide academic instruction through lectures, labs, or performance courses; assess and develop students' cognitive abilities, communication skills, and higher-order thinking.
• Advise students on programs of study, higher education opportunities, and study skills; refer students to support services as needed.
• Evaluate student performance through assignments, projects, discussions, and exams; provide timely feedback.
• Plan and organize instruction according to approved course outlines and student learning outcomes, aligning with department, college, and district goals.
• Maintain accurate records of enrollment, attendance, academic progress, and learning outcomes; submit data and reports in a timely manner.
• Evaluate and select instructional materials (e.g., textbooks, software) in collaboration with discipline faculty; order materials per campus procedures.
• Participate in curriculum and program development; update syllabi and collaborate on revising student performance indicators.
• Revise course content and materials based on new theory, applications, and industry developments.
• Attend and participate in committees, department/division/campus/district meetings, and articulation/matriculation activities.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications for either the Agricultural Production or Agriculture discipline as defined by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors.

Agricultural Production Discipline

• Any bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience, OR
• Any associate degree and six years of professional experience, OR
• Equivalent qualifications OR possession of an appropriate California Community College Credential.

Agriculture Discipline

• Master’s degree in agriculture, agriculture science, education with a specialization in agriculture, or related fields (e.g., agricultural business, animal science, enology, horticulture, forestry, plant science, viticulture), OR
• Equivalent qualifications OR possession of an appropriate California Community College Credential.

Preferred Qualifications

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or licensed veterinarian.
• California veterinary or Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license in good standing.
• Ability to obtain a DEA license.
• Graduate of an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program (if not a veterinarian).

Additional Notes

• Professional experience is required if the applicant holds a master’s degree; it must be directly related to the teaching assignment.
• All coursework must be from a recognized accredited institution. Foreign transcripts require additional evaluation (see "Foreign Transcripts" section in the original posting).
• Candidates whose degree titles do not exactly match the minimum qualifications must complete a Supplemental Questionnaire for Equivalency to demonstrate equivalent expertise. Equivalency reviews are conducted by a Districtwide committee or the hiring committee for campus-specific disciplines.
