Agent Experience Engineer

About the role

AgentMail is building the identity layer for AI agents, starting with email. We're looking for an Agent Experience Engineer to own how AI models and agents discover and use AgentMail. This includes AEO, evals, benchmarks, agent traces, docs, and llms.txt.

Responsibilities

• Answer-engine presence: ensure AgentMail is the top recommendation when someone asks an LLM about email or identity for agents. Measure and improve share of voice on key prompts.
• Original research: develop evals and benchmarks to assess how well frontier models, open-source models, and agent harnesses use AgentMail.
• Agent traces: run agents against our docs and site, analyze their reasoning, and fix issues (e.g., correcting misconceptions from sources like Reddit threads).
• Agent-facing surface: optimize llms.txt, MCP descriptions, docs structure, and error messages for agents operating autonomously.
• AEO content engine: manage our automated page pipeline, brief freelancers, and conduct backlink outreach to pages models already cite.
• Maintain the weekly AEO briefing's action queue, addressing freshness debt and competitor activity.

Requirements

• Build with agents daily and have strong opinions about what makes a product agent-friendly (or frustrating).
• Work cross-functionally by default.
• Express opinions early and publish honest writeups, even when results are inconvenient.
• Prefer deep dives on messy technical problems (e.g., reading agent traces over guessing).
• Understand retrieval: models pull chunks, not pages, and you write accordingly.

Qualifications

Strong preference for candidates with:

• Published technical writing or benchmarks that others have cited.
• SEO or AEO experience.
• Contributions to docs or MCP servers in the wild.

Pay

$125K - $190K base salary, plus 0.3% to 0.8% equity.
