Location: Bedford • Up to £45 per hour (inclusive of agency fees, marking and prepping, travel and/or accommodation) • 24 weekly hours required

About the role

Hairdressing & Barbering Lecturer delivering high-quality theory and practical programmes across Levels 1–3. The post supports student achievement, curriculum development, industry engagement and compliance with safeguarding, equality, diversity and health & safety standards.

Schedule

  • Monday: 11:30 AM – 2:30 PM
  • Tuesday: 9:15 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Wednesday: 10:30 AM – 3:00 PM
  • Thursday: 11:15 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Friday: 10:45 AM – 4:00 PM

Post runs from 7 September 2026 to 23 January 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging, inclusive and industry-relevant Hairdressing and Barbering theory and practical sessions across Levels 1–3.
  • Assess, verify and monitor student work in line with awarding-body requirements; maintain accurate records, provide feedback and implement interventions.
  • Develop and review schemes of work, create innovative learning resources and contribute to curriculum enhancement and quality processes.
  • Enhance the learner experience through enrichment activities, marketing events, open days and employer engagement.
  • Work collaboratively across the College, support group-wide initiatives and maintain up-to-date industry knowledge.
  • Uphold safeguarding, equality, diversity, health & safety and professional-development requirements.

Requirements

  • Recent teaching experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Cert Ed or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • English and maths GCSE Grade 4 or equivalent.

Vetting & documentation

  • Child and Workforce Enhanced DBS (current and valid, either under the Agency or on the Update Service).
  • Complete set of references covering the past three years (and last employment worked with children if prior to this).
  • Right-to-work evidence.
  • Proof of address.
  • Confirmation of online search.
  • Confirmation of health check – placement is Fit to Work.
  • Confirmation of overseas check (if relevant; otherwise confirm N/A).
  • Teacher Prohibition check and confirmation clear.
  • Employment history from school with all gaps accounted for.
