Agency Development Manager
About the role
Etude operates in insurance, commercial real estate, and industrials. Its insurance business covers more than 5,000 properties with billions of dollars in insured value. The real estate business owns approximately $1B of commercial property alongside the Kinder Family Office. The industrial business is developing a multibillion‑dollar, 40‑acre steelworks to secure the domestic supply chain for electrical infrastructure. The team is roughly 100 people, hiring high‑agency individuals and giving them autonomy, responsibility, and diverse problems. The company operates with the intensity of a small company where every person's work is visible and responsiveness is viewed as a form of respect. As the Agency Development Manager, you will be the face of Etude to the brokerage community, responsible for identifying, appointing, and managing relationships with independent agents as well as regional and national brokerages.
Responsibilities
- Build the Network: Identify and recruit high‑performing commercial lines agencies and brokers who specialize in core and adjacent verticals (self‑storage, light industrial, marinas, hangars, etc).
- Onboard & Activate: Lead the appointment process; after signing producer agreements, train producers on how to use the Etude portal to quote and bind business in minutes and ensure they are successfully utilizing the platform and understand the appetite.
- Relationship Management: Act as the primary point of contact for producer partners; conduct regular account reviews, provide appetite updates, gather feedback to improve the product, be hyper‑responsive to their needs and obsessed with making them successful working with Etude.
- Product Advocacy: Educate producers on Etude’s insurance products and technology advantage — showing them how data‑driven underwriting and faster turnaround times lead to better pricing and faster commissions.
- Drive Premium Growth: Own the entire pipeline from initial submission through to bind; partner closely with underwriters to ensure high‑quality risks are prioritized.
- Own Program Business: Build distribution/referral relationships with existing property management customers and other relevant industry parties.
Qualifications
- 5+ years in insurance distribution, agency management, or wholesale brokerage.
- Active surplus lines producer license is highly preferred (or relevant surplus lines experience).
Skills
- The Connector: strong commercial property insurance contacts and ability to navigate the hierarchy of a large brokerage.
- The Industry Guru: understands commercial P&C fundamentals, bored by legacy systems, excited to show brokers a better way to work.
- The Strategist: proactively identifies the best opportunities and builds a plan to capture them.
