Qualifications

  • A minimum age of 18 years old.
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Preference for experience working in a supervision role in athletics, recreation, education, or related fields.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively communicate with adults and students in a diverse work environment.

Essential Functions

  • Serve as supervisor for student-athletes.
  • Stay current with current rules, coaching techniques, schemes, and best practices.
  • Maintain a safe and positive atmosphere for student-athletes.
  • Prevent accidents and injuries by monitoring student-athletes.
  • Encourage student-athletes to succeed both in their sport and in life.
  • Communicate effectively with various stakeholders including sports medicine staff, game workers, officials, media, students, parents, spectators, and facility staff.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols including proper care of equipment and surveillance of program participants.
  • Attend all training sessions and additional staff meetings.
  • Work flexible hours including early mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Verify student-athletes' eligibility according to governing bodies and Reading School District Athletic policies.
  • Secure and manage equipment and facilities after each usage.
  • Communicate with relevant school administration, safe schools, custodial services, and/or police department as needed.
  • Model appropriate behavior for student-athletes.
  • Distribute, collect, and track uniforms and equipment.

Physical Requirements

  • Physically perform all skills required of a coach.
  • Hear noises and distress signals in a crowded athletic facility.
  • Withstand extreme weather conditions.
  • Lift at least 20 pounds.
