Afterschool Youth Leader
About the role
Salt Lake County Youth Services provides support to schools and families through Afterschool Programs, Summer Programming, and Parental Support. Programs are offered on site at schools in Magna, aiming to keep youth safe, provide healthy role models, teach new skills, and build self-confidence through various activities including academic support, dance, arts, sports, community service projects, and off-site field trips. Goals are achieved by collaborating with school administration and actively involving staff in making positive changes within the communities served.
Responsibilities
- Work directly with youth from diverse backgrounds in a school setting to create a safe and healthy environment.
- Use Positive Behavior Support techniques to guide groups of up to 15 youth.
- Plan and implement daily activities aligned with school day support and enrichment focus areas such as STEM, Arts and Culture, Character Education, Healthy Living, and College and Career Exploration.
- Create lesson plans and activities to enrich the lives of youth and help them succeed academically and in daily life activities.
- Complete 25 hours of training per school year to meet program and personal career goals.

- Must be at least 18 years old.

- Enjoy working with youth of all ages and motivated to guide and encourage their growth academically and interpersonally.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with a diverse population.

Pay
Start Pay: $15.45-$18.00/hr. Tier 1: No experience ($15.45/hr.) Tier 2: After 30 days and/or upon completion of required onboarding trainings OR 1+ year related experience at time of hire ($16.00/hr.) Tier 3: 1+ years of related experience plus completion of all required ASP trainings and 3 or above on Temp PDP ($17.00/hr.) Tier 4: 2+ years of related experience plus completion of all required ASP trainings and 3 or above on Temp PDP ($18.00/hr.)
Schedule
Varies based on location following a school year calendar. School year are afternoons Monday- Friday for 3+ hours, plus planning and prep time for about 15-20 hours a week. Hours (may vary): M-TH 200pm - 530pm; Friday 1200pm - 400pm.
