About ArmstrongCharles Armstrong School is the premier school for children with dyslexia and related learning differences in the San Francisco Bay Area, with a national reputation for excellence. We are a non-profit, independent, coeducational day school of approximately 240 students in grades 1–8, and every part of our program is designed for students who learn differently. About the RoleAftercare is where Armstrong students get to exhale after a full day of focused learning. As an Aftercare Program Associate, you'll help make that time safe, joyful, and restorative. You'll also gain hands-on experience with students with learning differences, which makes this an ideal starting point for anyone considering teaching, special education, counseling, or youth development.Schedule: Flexible. Choose the days that work for you, as long as your weekly schedule is consistent. Shifts run 2:45–5:30 pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and 12:30–5:30 pm on Wednesdays. What You'll DoBuild warm, consistent relationships with students and help them feel settled after the school dayUse positive teacher language to guide behavior, set clear and kind limits, and help students resolve conflictsSupport tired, frustrated, or dysregulated students with patience and calmSupervise students across indoor and outdoor spaces and transitions, following health, safety, and sign-out proceduresLead afternoon activities and snack, and keep spaces organized and suppliedMaintain attendance records and document incidents per school policy, as a mandated reporterShare student updates with the Aftercare Program Lead and brief, positive updates with families at pickup What You'll LearnResponsive Classroom teacher language and limit-settingHow dyslexia, ADHD, and anxiety show up in students' social and emotional livesCo-regulation strategies for supporting students through big feelingsTrust-building communication with families How We Support YouMonthly team meetings and paid professional developmentA structured feedback cycle: self-reflection, peer feedback, and a year-end evaluationRoom to grow: our Aftercare Program Lead role was developed and filled from within this team Who We're Looking ForSomeone who genuinely enjoys kids, stays steady when things get noisy, and is reliable, because students and families count on familiar faces at the end of the day. We especially welcome candidates with personal or family experience of learning differences.
