About the role
This role supports students ages 6–12 in the Three Tree Montessori School PM Care program (2:30 PM–5:30 PM, Monday–Friday during the school year). You will supervise children, assist with classroom tasks, and help maintain a safe, inclusive environment. There is potential to transition to part-time or full-time (40 hours/week) during summer 2027, with shifts between 8 AM and 5:30 PM.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and engage children during afterschool programs and summer activities (if applicable), ensuring a safe and inclusive environment.
- Assist with material-making and planning/implementing educational activities, games, arts and crafts, and recreational events.
- Foster a supportive environment that encourages social skills, teamwork, and personal growth.
- Ensure cleanliness and hygiene of the school environment, including washing dishes and restocking supplies.
- Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and team members regarding children’s activities and well-being.
- Create a safe and secure environment for children, being punctual and attentive during transitions.
- Communicate respectfully with children, redirecting when necessary and protecting their concentration.
- Rotate through the classroom, offering assistance only when needed, and accompany children between environments in an orderly manner.
- Use positive language, maintain consistency, and ensure all children receive equal attention.
- Respect confidentiality and foster healthy relationships with community members through direct, honest, and respectful communication.
Requirements
- For full-time summer position only: Must be 25+ and able/willing to drive a 12-passenger van.
- Previous experience working with children (e.g., daycare, camp, tutoring, babysitting, theater, or sports coaching) is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of classroom management techniques and behavior management strategies.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and remain on your feet for most of the day.
- Sound judgment, decision-making aligned with school values, and willingness to seek help when needed.
- Strong time management, prioritization, and punctuality.
- Commitment to upholding Montessori principles and practices.
- Effective communication with students, staff, parents, and community members.
- Creativity in developing engaging activities for children.
- Interpersonal skills: collaboration, conflict resolution, confidentiality, patience, flexibility, and emotional control.
Qualifications
- Copy of high school diploma and/or college transcripts (or proof of current enrollment).
- Proof of negative TB test (administered no earlier than one year from hire date).
- Current First Aid and CPR (infant/child/adult) and Bloodborne Pathogens certification (can be completed after hire).
- Background check clearance through the Department of Children, Youth & Families.
- Proof of MMR immunization or exemption.
Pay
$20.63+ per hour
Schedule
- Part-time: 2:30 PM–5:30 PM, Monday–Friday during the school year.
- Potential for part-time or full-time (40 hours/week) during summer 2027, with shifts between 8 AM and 5:30 PM.
