After School Group Leader
About the Role
Are you motivated to make a difference in the lives of children? Do you want to help create fantastic memories for local children? We are looking for individuals age 18+ with some youth development experience to help implement educational, enrichment, and recreational activities at the Boys & Girls Club in Penacook, NH. This role offers the chance to engage in fulfilling, meaningful work as a capable and caring mentor.
Opportunities are available at a brand new building and Penacook Elementary School.
Schedule
This is a split shift position with hours from 7:00 am to 9:00 am and 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm, allowing for flexibility during mid-day. Additional hours may be available during summer camp.
Responsibilities
- Prepare Youth for Success
- Creates an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes through age-appropriate day-to-day activities.
- Assists in orienting new members to the Club’s daily scheduling and program expectations (Be Safe, Be Kind, and Take Care).
- Provides guidance, role modeling, and constructive feedback to promote development and skill-building.
- Demonstrates leadership through consistent use of safety and licensing best practices.
- Continuously accounts for members in their assigned group by name, face, and written attendance.
- Oversees and assists in cleaning, organizing, and maintaining program space and upkeep.
- Program Development, Implementation, and Supervision
- Effectively implements and administers programs, services, and activities for members.
- Monitors and evaluates programs to ensure Club and child safety, quality, and appearance.
- Ensures program areas are safe, well-ventilated, and well-lit, and that equipment is maintained in good working condition.
- Evaluates Club programs continually, tracking outcome metrics and ensuring programs respond to member needs and diversity.
- Documents problems or issues through injury/incident reports.
- Communicates with child care licensing and DCYF when applicable.
- Participates in staff meetings, special programs, and events such as all-staff training days.
- Facilitates open and effective communication with families, staff, and members.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- A group leader in a school-age program shall be at least 17 years of age and meet one of the following:
- 600 hours of experience working with school-age children;
- At least 3 credits in child development, education, recreation, or a related field from an accredited college or university;
- Certified coach documentation;
- 5 years of parenting experience; or
- Documentation of prior qualification and employment as a group leader in a school-age program on or before 2022.
- Employees who are 19 years of age may be assigned to the senior program.
- Knowledge of youth development.
- Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems.
- Ability to communicate with parents/guardians.
- Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth.
- Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
- Must obtain CPR and First Aid Certifications to meet Bureau of Childcare licensing requirements.
- Occasional travel for meetings/training may be required.
- May be asked to drive Club van/short bus (21+ years of age only). Must possess a safe driving record.
All candidates offered a job will undergo an FBI fingerprint background check and a background check through the State of NH Criminal Records Dept. and FirstAdvantage. The State of NH Childcare Licensing Bureau may prohibit employment based on disqualifying findings. The organization reserves the right to determine employment status even if the state allows employment.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central and Northern New Hampshire provides early learning, out-of-school time programs, summer day camps, and basketball leagues to 1,200 youth weekly.
