Performs responsible childcare and recreation work in accordance with program standards for children ages five through twelve at an assigned location. Assists with planning and participating in organized childcare and recreational activities with children.
Schedule
Monday–Friday, 1:45–6:00 PM (21.25 hours per week).
Responsibilities
- Assists with planning and actively participates with staff and children in activities including games, music, arts, crafts, and playground activities, as well as other age-appropriate activities.
- Observes all activities to ensure the protection and safety of all participants.
- Provides a positive and authoritative approach to guiding behavior using age-appropriate limits and choices.
- Encourages children to take responsibility for their role in the classroom community.
- Teaches good eating habits and personal hygiene.
- Ensures children have proper rest periods.
- Provides individualized support for each child in every activity.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be at least sixteen years old in accordance with State licensing requirements.
- Must complete pre-employment training and attend a minimum of 12 hours of childcare-related training annually.
- Must pass a complete criminal history and Child Protective Services background check with acceptable results.
- Must submit to a Tuberculosis test following a conditional offer of employment.
- Must have and maintain Red Cross First Aid and CPR certification or obtain it after hire.
- General knowledge, skill, and interest in recreational activities suitable for children ages five through twelve in a group setting.
- Ability to deal effectively with participants, encourage activity engagement, and maintain effective relationships with co-workers, participants, and the public.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and adhere to program rules and objectives.
Skills
- Experience working with children in a structured environment (preferred).
Physical Demands
- Overall physical strength: medium (lift/exert force of 20–50 lbs. occasionally, 10–25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly).
- Frequently: standing, walking, lifting, carrying, handling, fine dexterity, bending, vision, hearing, talking.
- Occasionally: pushing/pulling, reaching, kneeling, crouching, twisting, climbing, balancing.
- Rarely: sitting, crawling, foot controls.
Environmental Factors
- Daily: mechanical hazards, dirt and dust, noise and vibration, wetness/humidity.
- Several times per week: chemical hazards.
- Seasonally: extreme temperatures, fumes and odors.
- Rarely: fire hazards, explosives, communicable diseases, darkness or poor lighting, physical danger or abuse.
Work Location & Equipment
Primary work location: indoors at school sites.
- Machines, tools, and equipment used: office equipment, playground equipment, adaptive equipment, communication devices, durable medical equipment.
- Protective equipment provided: first aid equipment.
