After-School Family Assistant

About the role

We are a warm, busy family in San Antonio seeking a dependable and caring after-school family assistant for two girls, ages 10 and 13. This role is perfect for someone who is warm, responsible, organized, and comfortable providing kind but firm guidance to school-aged children.

Schedule

Three consistent weekdays, 4:30pm to 7pm, totaling 8-10 hours per week.

Responsibilities

• Be consistently present and on time
• School pickup or local driving as needed
• Help the girls get settled and prepare an afternoon snack
• Provide homework help when needed
• Reinforce respectful communication, healthy habits, and family expectations
• Assist with after-school routine (including putting away backpacks, shoes, lunchboxes, and personal belongings)
• Unload the dishwasher and load a light amount of dishes
• Walk our friendly dog when the weather is pleasant
• Keep the children’s immediate areas reasonably tidy

Requirements

• Reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and a safe driving record
• Previous experience with school-aged children or preteens
• Dependable and able to commit to a consistent schedule
• Comfortable holding calm, appropriate boundaries
• Attentive and engaged rather than frequently using their phone
• Comfortable with a dog
• Capable of providing at least two childcare or professional references
• Willing to complete a background and driving-record check
• Current CPR/first-aid certification or willing to obtain it

We are seeking someone who can become a trusted, steady presence in our family and commit for at least the school year.

Pay

$20/hour, plus mileage reimbursement when transporting the kids.
