Position Responsibilities

  • Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school.
  • Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Safeguards confidentiality regarding school matters.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding any information or material obtained in the service of the organization.
  • Adheres to safety training and protocols on a daily basis.
  • Assists and supervises children during all activities.
  • Assists children with meal/snack time and clean-up.
  • Ensures site appearance, cleanliness, and safe environment are appropriately maintained.
  • Communicates appropriate information to parents.
  • Affixes to policies, procedures, and childcare guidelines in a pro-active manner.
  • Builds a positive relationship with each after-school participant and fosters positive connections between participants.
  • Interacts professionally and appropriately with children, parents, school staff, community members, and partners.
  • Effectively manages assigned group.
  • Maintains and enforces progressive discipline policy.
  • Reports observations and incidents (e.g., discipline, accidents, inappropriate social behavior, etc.) to site coordinator or school principal.
  • Participates in and evaluates the effectiveness of activities and events.
  • Actively participates in all aspects of staff or member development, including supervision, team meetings, orientation, and training.
  • Completes all other relevant programmatic duties assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Minimum Qualifications: High Diploma with relevant equivalent experience in working with school-age children and/or youth development.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Valid driver license.
  • Valid vehicle insurance.
  • Passes archdiocesan Safe Environment Requirements and background screening.
  • Minimum Knowledge and Skills: Understand and apply basic child and adolescent development principles.
  • Communicate and develop positive relationships with youth.
  • Adapt, facilitate, and evaluate age-appropriate activities with and for the group.
  • Involves and empowers youth.
  • Identifies potential risk factors (in a program environment) and takes measures to reduce risk.
  • Cares for, involves, and works with families and community.
  • Works as part of a team and shows professionalism.
  • Demonstrates the attributes and qualities of a positive role model.
  • Interacts with and relates to youth in ways that support asset building.
  • Must be detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, work well independently and on a team;
  • Must have good written and verbal skills;
  • Must have good critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
