About the role

We are seeking an Affordable Housing Recertification Specialist to join our team and help us carry out our vision for the CHA Polish community portfolio in Chicago, IL. The Recertification Specialist will be responsible for applicant documentation and data to determine applicant program eligibility, interviewing applicants and residents for initial certification and annual recertification, and requesting additional documentation to complete the process.

Responsibilities

  • Processes tenant application and leases including screening applicants, marketing, showing apartments, preparing leases and move-ins.
  • Ensures completion of all required items and documentation related to the applicant screening process including following up with all relevant individuals/entities as required.
  • Completes annual re-examinations within required time frames following program and HHDC procedures.
  • Completes interim re-examinations and unit transfers as required.
  • Conducts applicant and participant briefings and interviews, completing re-certification forms completely and accurately.
  • Ensures that all policies and procedures related to leasing and occupancy are adhered to and ensures that all applicant files are reviewed by the Property Manager prior to lease execution/signing.
  • Processes all transactions within required systems.
  • Maintains residents’ files in a safe and secure environment following HHDC information security policy and regulatory guidelines.
  • Affords assistance with rent collection and lease enforcement.
  • Affords assistance to the Property Manager and/or Assistant Manager in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies and priorities at the site.
  • Collaborates and carries out all duties related to assigned waiting lists.
  • Prepares and submits to Property Manager all required reports prior to due dates.
  • Maintains and utilizes established record keeping systems and documents.
  • Reports tenant problems/concerns/complaints to the Property Manager.

Requirements

  • High School or GED. 2-year college education a plus.
  • Minimum of 2 years of related Leasing/Occupancy Specialist experience.
  • Must be bilingual in Spanish or Polish.
  • Familiarity with project-based subsidy programs preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, in particular) and the ability to learn other software programs.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize multiple assignments.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good basic math skills.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to work well and with a high degree of accuracy in a busy office environment with frequent interruptions and changing priorities.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to interact effectively with a diverse range of people.
  • Diplomacy in handling problems of residents.

Qualifications
