About the role

This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.

Responsibilities

  • Support all aspects of aerodynamic and aerothermodynamic design for various spaceflight systems.
  • Share in the team’s impact on all aspects of the systems through their entire lifecycle from early conceptual design and configuration through flight operations and sustaining engineering.
  • Be analysis intensive, primarily supporting development and verification of vehicle-level aerothermal and rocket plume models and loads.
  • Develop and document aerothermodynamic models and databases for space launch and reentry vehicles using hand calculations, engineering methods, numerical methods, and detailed test methods.
  • Derive space vehicle aerothermal environments.
  • Model rocket plume environments, both direct impingement and indirect heating.
  • Use CFD modeling tools such as LAURA, DPLR, FUN3D, US3D, and scripting and programming languages for automation and data manipulation.
  • Use Link3D and US3D for multiphysics simulations of hypersonic flows.
  • Develop tool development using MATLAB.
  • Use 3D CAD tools like CREO for 3D CAD.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • 2+ years of experience in the fields of aerothermal or thermodynamic analysis
  • Strong aerodynamic fundamentals and intuition through multiple flight regimes (subsonic, transonic, supersonic, hypersonic, free molecular flow)
  • Proven experience deriving space vehicle aerothermal environments
  • Proven experience with one or more aerothermal CFD modeling tools (LAURA, DPLR, FUN3D, US3D, etc.)
  • Experience with CFD pre and post processing (Pointwise, Link3D, Ensight, Tecplot, etc.)
  • Proven track record using scripting and programming languages for automation and data manipulation

Qualifications

  • MS or higher degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • Experience modeling rocket plume environments, both direct impingement and indirect heating
  • Experience with Link3D and US3D
  • Experience in Multiphysics simulations of hypersonic flows
  • Knowledge in the use of 3D CAD tools (CREO)

Pay

For CO applicants is $90,934.00 - $127,307.25
WA applicants is $99,201.00 - $138,880.35
