About the role

Seeking a talented Aerothermal Engineer to join a growing team of engineers, technicians, and scientists supporting a diverse customer set to solve complex technical challenges. As a member of the Advanced Materials team, the successful candidate will support material, component, and system development activities for hypersonic and other flight vehicle systems.

Responsibilities

  • Generate aerothermal boundary conditions for vehicle analysis.
  • Assess material response, such as ablation and decomposition.
  • Generate and analyze vehicle trajectories.
  • Perform survivability analysis and establish operational bounds.
  • Design important components and subsystems that enable vehicle performance.
  • Generate derived requirements for materials and components that inform manufacturing and integration activities.

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • Secret DoD Clearance or the ability to obtain one.
  • Experience supporting research and development activities.
  • Demonstrated experience developing thermal boundary conditions from flight trajectory data.
  • Experience performing computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis using commercial software tools such as STAR-CCM+.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, in a technical environment.
  • Self-motivated and effective in a fast-paced, collaborative research and development environment.
  • Experience with thermal protection systems.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • An advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience performing coupled physics modeling and simulation on thermal protection systems (TPS).
  • Experience developing and executing large scale parameterized modeling studies utilizing Monte Carlo or other applicable optimization methods.
  • Experience working with test engineers to anchor modeling to experimental data.
  • Experience working within an integrated production team to deliver analysis and design artifacts.
  • Experience developing and documenting technical solutions for program proposal efforts.

Work Environment

This position requires onsite work due to security requirements. The work schedule is from 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday, located in a research park. The team consists of half employees from ATS and half from the prime contractor.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Huntsville, AL.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $48.00 - $95.00/hr.
