About the role

As the Aerospace Transparencies Product Design Engineer, you will be accountable for the engineering design support of new and existing Aerospace Transparencies products worldwide. You will provide product testing and performance evaluations to ensure products and transparency programs profitably meet performance expectations defined by customers, regulatory agencies, and PPG.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to Huntsville, Sylmar, and AmpaSpace manufacturing facilities and all related products through structural design and analysis, electrical design, product testing, and product documentation.
  • Responsible for technical communications within PPG, as well as to customers and governmental regulatory agencies via engineering test reports, presentations, white papers, etc., supporting all new and existing products.
  • Interact with customers, sales, product support engineering, program management, manufacturing, quality assurance, GTC, other PPG manufacturing facilities, and regulatory agencies.
  • Drive continuous improvement for the department’s environmental, health and safety, quality, and value performance to ensure an injury-free workplace, 100% compliance, customer satisfaction, and plant profitability.
  • Participate in safety, quality, and value improvement teams; attend and contribute to manufacturing planning, budget preparation, and departmental IT planning.
  • Actively participate in PPG’s New Product Introduction (NPI) process during Technical Reviews and Management Gate Reviews, including the New Program Selection Meeting.
  • Stay technically aware of industry trends, government regulations, customer requirements, and PPG Aerospace Transparencies’ manufacturing process requirements to contribute suggestions and recommendations.

Requirements

  • Five or more years of experience in the Aerospace industry.
  • Minimum Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related Engineering field.
  • Experience in both 3D and 2D CAD; SolidWorks and AutoCAD preferred.
  • Experience with Aerospace structural design and analysis, including knowledge of the finite element method preferred.
  • Experience providing technical support within a manufacturing facility.
  • Ability to support multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Product data management (PDM) experience is preferred.
