Aerospace Engineering Lecturer Pool
San José State University’s Aerospace Engineering Department offers an ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science (BSAE) and a Master of Science (MSAE) in Aerospace Engineering. The department’s hands-on, project-based curricula prepare students for professional careers in aerospace engineering, including aircraft and space systems research, design, development, testing, and integration. The department serves approximately 480 undergraduate and 80 graduate students.
MSAE students can specialize in sustainable aviation concepts, aerospace structural design, astrodynamics, space systems engineering, hypersonics, or propulsion. Opportunities include working with AE faculty and NASA engineers on microsatellite projects like TechEdSat, participating in the design and testing of a new hypersonic facility, applying machine/deep learning for structural health monitoring, optimizing spacecraft trajectories, and exploring electric and hybrid propulsion systems. Students may also engage in extracurricular projects such as the Spaceport America Cup and present their work at professional conferences like AIAA SciTech, the International Planetary Probe Workshop, and the International Symposium on Sustainable Aviation.
About the Role
Lecturers are expected to teach courses using student-centered pedagogies, collaborate with the Aerospace Engineering Assessment Coordinator to assess course and program learning outcomes, and maintain office hours in accordance with university policy. Lecturers will also participate in regular peer reviews of their teaching and are encouraged to seek guidance from the Department Chair on policies related to grading, testing, textbooks, curriculum goals, disability accommodations, and academic integrity.
Faculty must organize their classes using the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS), the official platform for the SJSU community. All classes, whether online or in-person, must be anchored in Canvas to ensure faculty-student connection. Lecturers must demonstrate awareness of and address the needs of a diverse student population through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.
