Aerobic Service Technician
About the role
Do you like people — talking with them, earning their trust, helping them make a good decision — but hate the idea of "selling"? Are you hands-on, mechanically curious, and happiest when you’re outdoors solving a real problem instead of sitting behind a desk? At Van Delden Wastewater Systems, our Aerobic Technicians are the face of our company.
You’ll spend your day one-on-one with homeowners, diagnosing their septic system, explaining what’s going on in plain language, and recommending the right fix. It’s relationship-driven work — the instincts of a great salesperson, without a sales pitch, a quota, or commission breathing down your neck.
Responsibilities
Think of yourself as part detective, part mechanic, part trusted advisor:
- Investigate and diagnose septic system issues using your electrical and mechanical know-how
- Sit down with customers, explain what you found, and walk them through their options honestly — no upselling, just straight answers
- Make the repair, using hands-on tools and troubleshooting skills
- Leave every system running safely and efficiently
- Build the kind of trust that turns a one-time customer into a lifelong one
Requirements
What We’re Looking For:
- 2+ years of electrical experience
- Strong customer service skills
- Dependable, reliable, and hardworking
- Comfortable using an iPad & other electronic devices
- Valid driver’s license (at least 3 years) & reliable transportation
- Ability to pass a background check & drug test
Qualifications
You genuinely like talking with people and want them to trust you — without the pressure of selling to them. You should have a clean, presentable appearance — you’re representing our company at every customer’s home.
Benefits
We’re Invested in You:
- Company van provided for work hours
- Paid training to get you started, plus paid, ongoing one-on-one coaching to help you hit your goals
- We pay for your TCEQ license — no experience required to start learning
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance
- Supplemental insurance options
- 401(k) retirement plan
- Paid holidays after 6 months
- 1 week of PTO after 1 year
Pay
Get Paid What You’re Worth: $50,000–$85,000 per year, depending on hours worked and incentives earned. Starting pay: $24/hour, plus overtime (techs average 45-50 hours/week). Weekly pay with direct deposit. Individual performance incentives — no commission, no pressure to "close."
After your first 3 months, you’re eligible for incentive pay on top of your hourly rate. Here’s what that actually looks like for our techs today:
- Entry-level (first 3 months, base pay only): ~$4,200/month
- Mid-level tech (with incentives): ~$6,200/month
- Our best techs (with incentives): ~$7,100/month — that’s over $85,000/year
Schedule
Monday – Friday, starting at 7:30 AM. End time varies by day depending on the workload — some days you’ll wrap up a bit early, some a bit later, but 5:00 PM is the average. On-call rotation is light — on average, one weekend a month, with 1–3 phone calls and about one actual site visit a year.
