AEMT/Paramedic Ambulance

Qualifications/ Performance Requirements

• Completed an appropriate course at the AEMT/Paramedic level.
• Valid AEMT/Paramedic certification from the State of Iowa.
• Valid Driver's license is required.
• Maintain a satisfactory driving record as defined in the Motor Vehicles Records policy in the BVRMC Employee Handbook.
• BLS, ACLS, PALS certification required at time of hire.
• Mandatory Reporter Training required within 6 months of hire.

Knowledge / Skills

• Previous experience desirable, but not required.
• Proficient with all skills listed under AEMT/Paramedic in the State of Iowa Bureau of Emergency and Trauma Services Scope of Practice and BVRMC Ambulance Service Protocols.
• Knowledgeable in the State of Iowa Law Chapter 147 regarding EMS laws and the Iowa Code 321:231 concerning the Iowa Driving laws.

Essential Performance Responsibilities

• Commit to help as much as possible with providing call coverage.
• Documents ambulance Patient Care Reports, charts per QI standards, to assess and document the patients’ chief complaint, injury or history of illness.
• Fills out ambulance Patient Care Reports completely, accurately, and in a timely manner.
• Be proficient in patient assessment and implementing initial treatment according to EMS protocols and/or medical control orders.
• Help to maintain emergency vehicles and equipment in an efficient working order.
• Operate ambulance vehicles according to BVRMC Emergency Vehicle Response Guidelines.
• Evaluate patient progress and report change in patient condition to receiving facility or Medical Control.
