Advocate Counselor

About the role

The Advocate Counselor provides individual, family, and group counseling, case management, advocacy, referrals, crisis intervention, and post-secondary planning for students once they reach graduation requirements. The role involves collaboration with GSS and DOE while aligning with the agency’s mission and vision.

Responsibilities

• Provide case management and wraparound support services for up to 50 or more overaged and under-credited students to help alleviate stressors and ensure successful graduation.
• Deliver individual, family, and group counseling.
• Perform crisis intervention as needed.
• Conduct family outreach and involvement where appropriate.
• Develop and implement strategic goal planning for students on caseload.
• Create and facilitate groups/workshops responsive to student needs, such as Advisory, Men’s, and Women’s groups.
• Assist students in attending school regularly by identifying obstacles and connecting them with resources.
• Conduct attendance outreach, including home visits, calls, texting, and mailing.
• Support program activities, including planning trips, celebrations, and leadership initiatives.
• Assist students with post-secondary planning, financial aid, personal essays, and college or vocational training trips.
• Collaborate with DOE and GSS team members.
• Generate and submit data for statistical reports, ensuring accurate paperwork and database entry.
• Perform other duties as assigned to enhance program performance.

Requirements

• Associate Degree required.
• Experience working with adolescents/young adults individually and in groups.
• Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
• Prior experience in a school setting is helpful.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Commitment to a strength-based and/or youth development perspective.

Schedule

Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM (35 hours/week, non-exempt).

Pay

$44,000 - $50,000 per year.
