SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The Advisor - Peer Assistance & Review provides instructional support to teachers to help improve teacher practice through specific intervention plans and makes recommendations for job retention.
About the role
- Works with a caseload of teachers identified using teacher effectiveness data and in collaboration with school leaders.
- Supports teachers in meeting goals identified in the intervention plan and District performance standards.
- Prepares and submits summary documentation regarding future employment status of each teacher on their caseload to the PAR Panel.
- Analyzes teacher performance data including formal observations to summarize evaluations and student assessment data to make recommendations to school leaders.
- Develops transition plans for teachers who are recommended to continue as MSCS teachers.
- Shares transition plans with school leaders and develops consistent cycle of follow-up to ensure plans are followed.
- Supports the goals, plans and progress of the District pipelines, induction, development, and retention on a consistent basis by sharing data relative to the support and development of struggling teachers.
- Supports with the plans and collaborates with school system principals to provide support for beginning teachers at school sites, including facilitating professional learning for new teachers and mentors.
Responsibilities
- Provides direct support identified in the intervention plans.
- Uses a variety of methods to support teacher improvement such as conferencing, co-planning, conducting of classroom observations and providing feedback, modeling best practices, leading demonstration lessons, co-teaching, and supporting self-reflection.
- Provides a written recommendation for review by school leaders and the PAR Panel at the conclusion of the support year about whether the teacher should be re-elected, non-renewed, or dismissed.
- Demonstrates confidence, objectivity and thoroughness in communicating findings and recommendations.
- Supports the goals, plans and progress of the District pipelines, induction, development, and retention on a consistent basis by sharing data relative to the support and development of struggling teachers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in human resources, educational administration, curriculum development, training development or related behavioral sciences required PLUS a minimum of four (4) years of related experience for a total of eight (8) years.
- Valid TN Teacher License required.
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree: 2 years plus required years of experience.
- Bachelor’s Degree: 4 years plus required years of experience.
