Advisor-Financial Expert (Fort Wayne)

About the role

The Financial Expert Advisor provides financial guidance and subject matter expertise to support decision-making within a healthcare organization. This role focuses on financial planning and performance improvement initiatives that deliver on plan. The advisor partners with executive leadership, clinical teams, and finance departments to enhance financial sustainability, optimize resource utilization, and ensure alignment with industry best practices.

Advises business units on financial performance and the impact of decisions, considering downstream outcomes from changes. Uses expertise to address large-scale, cross-departmental problems affecting financial results. Partners with operational leadership within the region and other IU Health business units to identify growth and revenue opportunities unique to the region and facility. Creates executive-level reporting packages to communicate financial or other information on costs, prices, expenses, revenues, and various clinical and operational measures to make recommendations.

Analyzes diverse sets of data, including financial, operational, clinical, and economic data, to support strategic and operational decisions. Serves as a trusted financial resource to operational leaders, providing financial reporting and analysis, expense management, operational improvement, and evaluation of growth opportunities. Combines strong relationships, analysis, and risk-conscious planning to ensure the unit's plan is realized.

Interfaces with both leadership and front-line team members to execute organizational development strategy and drive change initiatives. Partners with Assistant CFOs, CFOs, and leadership teams in the region to drive actions related to long-range financial planning and the annual budget process, including operating and capital decisions. Analyzes complex financial data to drive operational improvement and/or provide subject matter expertise in key financial areas. Accountable for accurate volume and expense planning in assigned areas to support regional leaders in achieving goals.

Requires the ability to promote teamwork and develop team members without direct reports—leading through influence. Possesses advanced knowledge of principles and practices in a specialized financial field. Participates in research to progress the field or practice area. Leads planning and development of programs/projects within the specialization. Provides guidance, direction, and training to staff and may lead non-reporting staff or share specialized expertise. Has matrixed management responsibilities with financial analysts.

• Serve as a trusted financial resource for operational leaders, providing financial reporting, expense management, and evaluation of growth opportunities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field (required).
• Master’s degree (preferred), such as MBA, MHA, or MS Finance.
• CPA, CFA, or equivalent certification (preferred).
• 6–8 years of experience in finance or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of healthcare reimbursement, regulatory frameworks, and financial operations.
• Knowledge of state and national regulatory agency guidelines and/or GAAP or other industry-standard guidelines.
• Experience successfully interacting with all levels of leadership.
• Experience implementing large-scale process improvement initiatives that drive measurable business results.
